Doves??

Anyone actually have any success shooting doves on the wing? Flu Flus? Would fletch color matter?
I know they are a challenge for most with other methods, just wondering.

I can't hit them with a shotgun. A bow is just out of the question. I know there are some folks who can do it, but as the old song said, "No, no, no it ain't me babe."

Saw a video on YouTube of a guy shooting them with a "modern" bow, it was pretty incredible, so yes, it's possible.  I think he was using regular arrows with judo points.  Personally, I'd use a flu flu and be prepared to chase lots of arrows.  And white, chartreuse, or hot pink fletching. Have fun!

I can see where it could be done over a pond. Beyond my ability. Best bet would be a shot coming to water or Mojo. Even an excellent shot would struggle.

Yeah the guy I watched using wheel bow had to go to heavier draw cause they were so quick. He had some of those moving wing decoys and was catching them as they were settling to land, he also had the tips with the wire apparatus on them similar to a snar-o or however it's spelled. Sounds fun to me but I'll be chasing elk when the dove hunting is good!

If I were doing it I'd use flu-flus with Snaro points and hunt under a dead tree they were using for resting.

I just finished a conditioning hike up the mountain.  On the last pull there was a hole with water and there must have been 70 in there.  Half mile from the house, so I will be there on opening day afternoon.  Probably lose a few, but...have to try

No actual success yet, but getting ready to try again Sept 1.  

I have missed with bird points, judos, blunts and broadheads.

Just got a battery MOJO decoy and will try to shoot them as they settle on a fence near a water hole.  The wind model works great, when there is a breeze.

A resting tree will work also, but I like the fence as it keeps the arrow trajectory a little lower and easier to find.

I have also tried stalking them out in the pasture, but I just can't seem to get close enough for effective jump shooting.

I have been trying for the last couple of years. Flu flus are too slow. Gave up on them after a few trys. Have been getting much closer since going to regular fletch, but you have to have a big open plowed field if you want your arrows back. Mojo decoys help a bunch. One of the biggest problems is that as soon as you start to draw, they see you and turn. When they turn they are going away from you and almost impossible to hit!

I'm taking tips from Bisch this season and will use regular fletching and get a mojo or two.  Gonna do this on public land so not sure how that's going to work out, but it'll be fun as can be tryin'.

I am in the process of inventing a form of snaro point that has webbing like a tennis racket and the point is 30" across.

The doves up here seem to be able to dodge flu flus quite well.

Up here, Mojo doves work VERY well.

Only one hit so far, it cost me $5,500.  I hit the dove as it was crossing into the woods, as it fell, the doves beak struck a turkey in the eye and killed it.  That's when the game warden popped up.  Ticket for Turkey out of season was 5K.  The Turkey fluttered to the ground and startled a huge buck that took off so fast he struck a tree with his antlers on the right side.  This broke his neck, the officer wrote me another ticket for $500. As I was trying to talk my way out of the ticket the officer and I pulled the deer antler out of the tree and heard a growl.  Turns out the tree was hollow and the deer antler and gone through and stuck a bear in the butt.  The bear came after us (with a slight limp) and was gaining when the Warden shinned up a tree, I was right behind him and the bear was behind me.  All of a sudden the bear grabbed my leg and began pulling it.... just like I've been pulling yours.  The moral of this story, anyone that tells you they can shoot doves with an arrow is pulling your leg.
