patching vital area in deer targets

anyone ever used foam insulation that comes in a can to patch "shot through" vital area ?  I know that stuff gets brittle just wondering.  thanks craig

Yes sir... I have kept some old targets alive for a long time using the foam insulation. I will cut out the shot up area and place a yoga block in the area. Then I will wrap the area with plastic pretty tight then tape, in preparation for the foam. The plastic will need a hole cut in it for the excess foam. Let the foam cure then paint the target and get a few more miles out of it.

When we repaired the club 3d's we also cut cut out the bad area. Then cut a piece of heavy foam to fit and used the can insulation stuff to hold it in place.
I have doubts the can stuff will hold up on its own in an area the size of a kill zone. We used something similar years ago that we had to mix. It came out in chunks if hit just right by the arrows. I think the yoga block idea would be more practical.

Ethafoam if you can find it.(old boogie boards,packing material,etc.
Cut and glue in layers approx thick as 3D.
Cut out kill a little larger than plug..then foam in plug.Use fillet kinfe to rough out excess and a sander or rasp to finish.paint and shoot.

I use 'Great Stuff' self expanding foam... Wrap the cleaned out, shot up area with plastic wrap (if you can talk the wife out of it)    

Stick the straw into the hole and start spraying.
Let set up over night, unwrap and paint.

That easy...

I've got a Glendel Full Rut target I've repaired twice with Great Stuff.  Works great, but don't think I can ignore buying a new core next year.

I use a 12 inch half inch bit.  Drill in several holes at strategic places and angles and then wrap with either burlap or plastic.  Run the nozzle of the great stuff down.  Squirt, you can see it filling in.  Then go to the next hole., repeat.  I use a ferrier rasp to smooth it over, aday later then the third day the paint is applied.  Do not know how long it will last, but this is my third such repair

This is the system using the same type material as in the targets. It is pricey but will do a long lasting job.
