So my buddy in Idaho sends me this message just now:

Archery season starts this Saturday and I have licenses for deer, elk, moose, bear, mountain lion, wolf, and turkey. Wish me luck!
My reply:

Have fun. I can shoot squirrels and doves.

I know your pain! My buddy starts hunting mule deer today in Colorado and also has a bear, elk, and antelope tag.  Meanwhile here in Mississippi we have to wait till October just to hunt whitetails ha

Deer season opened Aug 15th here in the Lowcountry of SC on private land.  There are many that went hunting on that day despite a heat index of 110+.  Not ME!!

Ditto in Illinois.  Squirrels and doves... if I can find a place to hunt...

There will be of course far more large white-tail bucks coming from the counties in Indiana.

I was born in KY but spent the first 37 years of my life in Indiana. Great place, super deer hunting (these days), lots of turkey, dove hunting, and of course the wonderful grey and fox squirrels.

I love the western mountains but the seasons are sure shorter out there.

Best I could figure out for Idaho is general seasons end October 31st (Indiana is just getting good then). Some controlled hunts go into November with a closure of Dec. 1st being he last time to hunt.

Here in KY, no matter the temperature, I'll be guarding a favorite cedar tree the morning of Sept. 6th when our deer season opens. The first few hours are always plenty cool.

Here in the midwest (or northern South) we will be able to pursue our passion until mid-January.

Still though I think Coeur d'alene, ID is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited!

I have turkey, antelope, bear and elk tags for Colorado.  If nothing else should make for great tag soup.

Although I am jealous of the western and Alaskan guys hunting more critters and starting sooner.

They are often jealous of us hunting until January.

Best case scenario is to have Dual citizenship between Colorado and Illinois.

Trust me, I know what we got here.  Nearly unlimited deer tags if you have the places to hunt.  And tons of small game with long seasons.  I love it here.  I meant that.  I'd hunt there more but my elk tag and license costs $650.  That's tough to justify more than every other year or so.

I would really like to have the opportunity to hunt moose, elk, and antelope but Indiana and big whitetails are what I love.
