arrow building for heavyweight bows....
« on: August 31, 2014, 03:39:00 PM »
I recently acquired an old osage stave longbow upon which the only remarkable features were a tooled leather grip, and the number "100" in stamped numerals. After minute examination searching for flaws that might suggest that I NOT string/pull, I proceeded to do so.. the "100" is DEFINITELY the pull weight as I can only get it about 70-75% drawn and my scale says 80 at that point. SO, as I'm in training to master this little monster, I'm building arrows for it. My question is this....  Are there any nocks available that could be considered to be better than others with regards to the pressure exerted when shot at that weight???

Reinforced self nocks! That's what the English War Bow guys do and they shoot 100# to 175# bows.
They usually use 1/2" dowels for their arrows but draw 30" to 32" with their "getting into the bow" drawing style.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!

I use bone nocks for 70# (89# dynamic spine) and have no issues.

I have some Mercury style nocks that were machined from aluminum on a CNC.
