back at it after one year
« on: September 11, 2014, 11:49:00 AM »
So i finally picked up my predator classic recurve 58# at my 28 inch draw after a year. i shot few arrows in my back yard. i will be the first to admit i was nervous. i had recently lost 40 lbs and was wondering if that was going to effect my shot. Well sadly i could barely anchor! it made me very upset. i lost my touch with the bow. i am seriously over bowed. the saddest part is i lost touch and love for my bow in itself. seriously considering selling this and buying another bow =[ ... I'm feeling a little lost! any words? has any one ever felt like this?

You can pick up a lighter set of limbs for it and get right back at it - try 45lbs.

Lost 40lbs as in got in shape? Or lost 40 lbs as in had a illness and was weak?  I would think losing 40 you would feel better and much stronger. I would presume.

But myself after taking long breaks always feel weak when first starting shooting again. Usually takes 2 weeks to get back to normal at the earliest. Give your self some time n don't beat yourself up but. Remember these bows don't have let off. You are holding more weight the further you draw n it's nothing to be ashamed of. Esp if you have not shot allot in true past it's going to take time to get back into it. Bow weight don't have nothing to do with your prowless as a man. Start looking up and finding some exercise to build your self up a bit. It will come faster than you think. And learn to use your back. I not your arm and shoulder so much. You be okay.

After a long layoff your muscles need to get used to the draw weight of your bow again. That is perfectly normal. Be patient. Your strength will come back pretty fast because you are healthier.

It takes time to get back in the rhythm. You need to pick up a set of #45-48 pound limbs for your predator, and you will be ready to shoot the heaver limbs in time.

Don't give up, you adjusted you body, now adjust your equipment.

Definitely don't give up! Just a second set of limbs and you'll be good to go. With some practice of course.   :D

I have found that pulling a bow of considerable weight back constantly and consistently requires a very specific set of muscles, muscles that other day-to-day activites don't generally target. Those who exercise at the gym and some other jobs, hobbies, or repeatitive tasks can get an advantage but for the vast majority only constantly and consistently drawing a bow will condition the muscles. That's a very long-winded way to say "practice, practice, practice". haha Keep at it again, the muscle will come. If you don't drop in weight at least incorporate stretching and conditioning into your shooting. Back and shoulder muscles are quickly lamented when we injure them!
