glass bow and bambbo arrows
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:14:00 PM »
so i was out shooting this morning with some buds at the range. while shooting my glass lam longbow i was using some bamboo arrows i made up for it specifically for target shooting. well they all gave me flak for using primitive arrows with a "modern" longbow. "there is a golden rule that bamboo arrows are only to be shot from "primitive" bows." they all said. "that's like driving a goat drawn Ferrari." lol

well these boo arrows are spined and weight matched, duplex nails for points, rind scraped/sanded off and dark brown leather dyed the full length with banana cut feathers, and wrapped selfnocks. not exactly "primitive". they gasped when they found out they were bamboo.

so, trad/primitive police, am i breaking a "golden" rule? anyone else do this too? i can't be the only crazy one out there.

oh, and they were all using wood arrows that i made them.

I would use them. I actually have materials to get some going. Just have been lazy!
People say the same thing about using carbon arrows.  "Nothing trad about carbon"

That's funny, dogging you while shooting your arrows.   :biglaugh:

I picked up a longbow with bamboo cores and veneers. I just saw it fit to shoot bamboo arrows from it. I made up some bamboo arrows and it was like a match made in Heaven.

If the trad police find you guilty well, I guess I'm in trouble as well. Till then, I'll keep shooting those fine Boo arrows from that fine glass "Boo bow".   :archer2:

If shooting them pleases you then you need no justification from another archer. If one thing suited every archers taste there would be no need for the plethora of choices we have today in equipment.

Some of my best days shooting have been with Bamboo arrows. Sometimes with glass bows, sometimes with all wood bows. Bamboo flies great and they are almost indestructible.

I shoot carbons out of my self bow all the time. Shoot them . There's no rule just dumb opinions.
Why would a bamboo shaft be primitive ?. They are great shafts.

Tell the naysayers to stand down range about 20 yards and receive both a cane arrow and a "modern material" arrow and see which one kills them the best. If the arrow shoots well for you, your bow and your style od shooting what difference does it make if it is just a "goat drawn Ferrari". Dead is dead!!!

My brother in law is using his bamboo arrows form his recurve. I will try them also from my glass bows as well. I could care less about the " trad police " and any who have crossed my path know that right away.

I shoot boo arrows with a fiberglass bow, guess I didn't realize that was bad manners  :) . If they work for you then to heck with the Trad police!

I shoot what works and what I like. I also only shoot for myself.

Killed with a carbon and foam cored longbow and cane arrows. No I never felt like I was breaking any unwritten rules. I only felt like I was going to be enjoying lots of steaks for the next year or so. :D
