WHEN TO CHANGE A STRING
« on: September 28, 2014, 12:47:00 PM »
believe I have only change my string once (that one was obviously needed).

Do you guys change after so many shots, years, months, when it looks like it?  I certainly don't want to blow a string or change one if not needed, please advice what you do, when and why.

Thanks, always look forward to the tradgang wisdom.

I find flemish strings hold up better for me, as long as they stay waxed. That said, I change when they are fraying, or worn at the loops. I like to have a couple strings broken in for replacements. I use both Dacron and FF.

I do a visual and run my fingers up and down the string to feel for wear, nicks or cuts and replace as needed. Otherwise I will use the same string year to year if it looks good.

Mine is a Flemish FF, seems to be holding up well for fray and nicks. I wax very often, sounds like this may be helping.  Thanks for the info so far.

Had one break under the serving on my Centaur a while back. The string looked perfect and was well cared for...until then. Change it yearly for cheap insurance. Save the old one for a spare. I don't want to risk a good bow or injury for 20 bucks.

About once a year. $20 to protect a $1000+ bow just makes to me.

I shoot 3 to 5 times a week so I try and wax frequently, change the string once a year.

Use common sense.  If you think the string needs changing, then most likely it does.  Wear and tear means more to me than age.  I have some bows that get shot a lot more than others.

What material, strand count, draw weight, bow length, and draw length?  Did you use super glue?

These are the mysteries I want to figure out.

BW recommended every year or 10,000 (not sure about the number) shots.
