Help! - my son is moving to GA

You just never know the turns life will take...my son's wife just accepted a job in GA and they will be moving to the Kennesaw area. This was the first year since starting college that Andy had a chance to do some serious bowhunting. We had big plans here in PA for the season.

Looking at the positive, I know there is a few things to hunt in GA so the first question is where to start looking for a place to hunt deer this year?

I am looking at the non resident situation of course but do not know how much time I will have to hunt there.

Also, any good traditional shoots/clubs in that area?

I guess I will be a regular in GA, man I sure miss the boy and of course his wife already.

Tons of public hunting opportunities within an hour of Kennesaw.

NGTA a traditional archery club in Gainesville . We begin our shoots in January and shoot the 1st Sunday of each month through August . Plenty of WMA's ( management  area's) in the mountains , Piedmont and south Ga. I'm in a bow only club with Jerry Russel who posts here, email him. Lots of opportunities in Ga.

I`m on a bow only lease between Carrolton and Newnan, but live in Marietta, so its only about an hour. I hunt the land Chenryiv described above and belong to the clubs mentioned by Blueridge. Have him messgae me or email me and I`ll be happy to help out.
Ga is the hunting capital of the world.

There are countless WMA's in the Northern part of Georgia as well as the Chattahoochie National forest areas that include more than 750,000 acres. Most are ridge and valley but some are very rugged mountain areas. Deer, bear and hogs are there.  I now live in that region.  The metro areas of Atlanta has some monster bucks.

Hunting is great in Georgia. Like said, there are tons of WMA's and the like for hunting. I live down south by Ft Benning and have lived over by Savannah at Ft Stewart. From plenty of deer to bears, hogs, coyotes, etc. you'll run out of energy before you run out of hunting seasons or space. I'm from just over the state line from Erie Pa in NY and hunting down south is a somewhat different animal. The bugs, heat, and vegitation are the obvious differences. Most of the deer are smaller but theres monsters out there, besides my permit allows for 10 doe and 2 antlered so it more than balances out. The second peak hog movement season is right after deer season so save your energy - nothing like stalking pigs! Good maps and GPS are handy since some of the tracts of land are extensive and the palmettos and swamps make it easy to get turned around, especially in the low lands where there aren't many hills. I hope he enjoys his hunting in Georgia, its a great state for outdoorsmen!
