Can you turn a string around?

If a string doesnt have a defined top and bottom is it possible to use either side or will there always be a top part of a string and a bottom.  My serving is getting worn where the arrow nock rubs and I was wondering if theoretically I could just flip the string around and adjust my nock point and keep shooting that string.  The loops appear to be the same size.

You can do that but probably better to just reserve the string.

It works, provided the serving comes up far enough after the string is flipped end for end. I make my strings specifically so I can do this. I sometimes serve to a different diameter so that I can use different nocks (that fit!) on the same string.

Howard Hill built strings with the ends, serving and dual nocking points to fit the bow. Watch the size of the loops, or they may not stay on the limb, depending on the bow you shoot.

Yes, agree.  But, also consider that the nock area will now be making contact with your arm/guard. Unless you are a shooter who makes no contact at the shot.
I would suggest to apply some glue and or wax that area to protect from futher wear.

If you have no backup string, now would be the time to aquire one or build.

A bow without it, is no fun!   :(

The size of the nock loops may come into play, especially if it's on a recurve or flatbow.  The loop for the top of the string is usually larger so it will slide down the upper limb for stringing purposes.

Nobody ever said the bigger string loop has to be at the top.
You can always slide the bottom loop off when you unstring the bow.
