Getting Forgetful In My Old Age

I'm getting forgetful in my old age.  I decided to make my first trip to the woods today despite the temps still being in the 60s here in the Lowcountry.  One of the first things I did was take my snakeboots out and put them on the front porch.

I drove the 50 minutes it takes me to get to the farm I hunt and to the back of the first field where I parked my truck.  I got out of the truck and went to put on my snakeboots.  Uh oh, my boots were nowhere to be found.    :(    

I called my wife to verify what I already knew.  My boots were still sitting on the front porch!       Oh well, maybe Saturday.

Don't feel too bad, it happens to all us "more mature" hunters.

I was still hunting yesterday and decided to do some "leaf" shooting. After one particular shot near the edge of a large field, I couldn't find my arrow under the grass. I had given up and started to walk off when I seen the arrow buried into a large oak at the edge of the field. My arrow apparently skipped and hit the tree.

After digging the broadhead out of the tree, I calmly stood up and walked off... LEAVING THE ARROW LAYING ON THE GROUND!!

I didn't even notice it was missing until I got back to the house. Retrieved it today.

I couldn't laugh at myself, but I did get a chuckle out of your misadventure.  I've killed several oak trees in the Kumbrabow State Forest in Randolph County over the years due to misdirected arrows.  The nut behind the bow decided to kill a nut tree rather than the deer at which he was aiming.

Similar story. We left the cabin to go Sika deer hunting and drove 1/4 mile to the tractor, loaded the trailer up with guns and packs, hopped aboard and drove the tractor another mile into the marsh. Got out in the dark and were walking on dry land and my friend said "Something feels funny." We shone the light on his feet and he had his bedroom slippers on. We howled.

Went out for a scouting/stumping walk a couple of weeks ago, and didn't realize till I was going to take my first shot that I forgot my BOW. Kinda felt like I was traveling light when I left!?

A friend of mine forgot to take his bow with him after a tournament.... Happily someone noticed this and runned to the place were we parked our cars, which was 1\\4 of an hour walking. He had the bow with him and gave it to my friend, otherwise we would have driven home without his bow!
Can you believe that?

Hey Bill,
My mature moment occurred a few years back when I got in the woods a coupla hours before sunrise. Got all settled in and realized I forgot my arrows...    Had to wait till daylight to find my way out and go get them. Never happened again!!

Bill, just last week I packed my stuff in my vehicle, started to pull out of the drive, when I remembered that I was missing something.I walked back in to the house and the wife says "you for get something" yea my bow.

Just one that seems "fresh".....

Up in the Adirondack Mountains, at Adkmountainken's "Adirondack Attack"...

A bunch of my fellow TradGang Brothers & I spent the evening socializing. Eating like Kings and the liquid libation was flowing!!! (I still think that "Blue Juice" that Drewsbow broke out, was the culprit) We get up the next morning, get dressed, pile in trucks & head for the base of the mountain. The Gang piles out & gets ready for the hike up the mountain. Kenny has stands & spots picked for the new guys, Some veterans who know the mountain, volunteer to take others. All start to head out, except Little Mickey(mcgroundstaker) and myself. I told the guys before they left,"In 30some years, I've never broke a leg in these mountains,and I don't plan on breaking one today!!!" All head up, and are soon out of hearing... I spend the time in the dark quietly talking with Mike. We are old friends... It starts to get light & we head up the mountain. A bout with phnumonia years ago, left me with colapsed lungs, that never fully inlated again. I easily become winded... I bid my Brother Waysiah Good Luck, and wished him a "Good Day"..... He headed up the mountain, and out of sight.

I picked my way up to the woodroad that leads off to "Woodchucker's Rock". I had seen a nice big buck here a few years before, 8 maybe 10 points, he was out of range & moving! Nobody got a shot at him that weekend either. Perhaps, he was still around??? It was a beautiful morning, and everyone was going to meet at the trucks, to head back to "camp" for lunch... (EATING is VERY important!) We were all gathered at the trucks, shareing our experiaces.... My "adopted" son Chris DeWitt, looked at me, and then my hand.....

"When did you start shooting without a glove, Chuck??? Is that an Indian thing????"

I'd never even noticed.....

I'm not going to comment on that one.  I can't remember what I was going to say anyway.

It's not that were getting more forgetful, it just that we remember our screw ups more easily now.
