Stuck at work
« on: November 04, 2014, 02:34:00 PM »
Here I am, stuck at work doing compliance type computer classes right as rut activity kicks off here in OK!

Too far out the other day I watched bucks chasing does, even one that appeared ready for tending.

I won't likely get off work till too near dark to head out all this week though next Monday.

Ugghh!

what really sucks is....  I am retired now, and I am having the same issue. .   I got behind on building my workshop waiting for concrete to be poured and cure, so now I am racing the cold weather.  Some things gotta be done before I can play.

Feel your pain, hunt Federal land here in TX and it is only potentially open Fri thru Sun and then usually not all that.  Working two jobs also gets in the way.  Been out three 1/2 days since 27 Sept.

I feel your pain I watch all the whitetail hunters post their posts while my big game hunts are over. My hunts got cut short this year after only hunting the first four days of my deer and elk hunt. I was planning on hunting another 8 days but just didn't work out. That was in August and have been working 60 to 80 hour weeks until last weekend when I had two days off together since then. I had to turn in two greater sage grouse tags back to the fish and game in September because of work obligations after two years of trying to draw. Last weekend my fall turkey hunt started and lets just say I didn't get out. I'm hoping to get out later this mouth. Work can be so over rated! Keep your head in the game and I hope you get out and hunt when you can!

I'm in same boat, I work four 12's then have four days off, my season opens back up today and I go back to work tonight and it's two hours from my door to my stand so I won't be able to go till Monday! And with this job there is no playing hookie like my old job and the pay is so much better I can't afford to screw it up!

Ive been in that boat too many times. Days I have to work when I want to hunt I do a lot of "patrolling" through the deer sections of town. I get to talk to bowhunters at their trucks or stop at the shops when Im really freed up which is a rare occasion.

Sure beats having unlimited time to hunt cause we're out of work.   :scared:

I hate it for you, but glad to know I'm not the only one. I'm currently transitioning from one job to another and trying to get together everything for a prn (as needed) position at another facility. I'm off today, the wind and weather are perfect, and here I am sitting by the phone waiting for calls from people who obviously have no sense of urgency. It's SOOOOOO frustrating! If I can get things worked out in the next couple of hours, I may be able to squeeze in a couple of hours before dark...otherwise it's next Monday at the soonest and that's following 6 twelve hour shifts in 7 days. I was supposed to be starting 2 weeks off at my soon to be previous employer starting in just over a week. Unfortunately, circumstances at that employer have made it necessary for me to get out as it was starting to effect my health. I figure get out now...I may miss the biggest part of the chase, but at least I'll still be healthy enough to hunt. It doesn't make it any less frustrating though.   :banghead:

Right now I'm halfway between Alvarado TX & and my home field camp across the river. IF I can get back before 3 pm I might be able to sneak out.

Drove away from the Flying H about 3:30, made it into my stand @ 4:30. In a neighboring pasture on the way I saw 4 does & a small buck on the winter wheat.

Lord willing something will want corn on its way to some wheat.
