Condensation under limb glass????
«

I had a rough out of state hunt last week that began with rain, went to 25 degrees and snow, then up to 65 degrees. I hunted throughout all conditions. I have a Martin Dreamcatcher. After the warm up I noticed some light splotching under the glass on one of the limbs. Everything seems fine, but I am wondering if this is condensation trapped under the glass and if I should be concerned? Thanks in advance.

My preliminary guess would be a glue failure brought on by the extended periods of inclement weather. Prolonged periods of cold and wet followed by warm and dry may have had an effect on the laminations by absorbing moisture and expanding, then drying out and contracting, stressing the glue lines. I'm no expert by any means, but it doesn't sound too good. Plus there has been a few de-lamination threads of Martins lately. I would be very cautious until the pros can advise what to do. Posting pictures will help.

Highly unlikely that the condensation is under the glass...not saying impossible. More than likely it is a fogging or milkiness that is in the finish due to high moisture content. I have seen this in bows finished with fullerplast and krystal before..maybe other finishes too.
Sometimes it goes away.
About the only fix is a refinish.

BigJim, do you think it poses a problem? I can live with it if it is only cosmetic.

My Mamba did the same thing recently during a rainy hunt but it took on moisture in every inch of the glass. I followed someone's advice and put two coats of polyurethane on it after it dried well. The finish isn't great and it may not have been the best thing to do but it's sealed up and shoots the same as it did which was my main concern. Good luck with it.

Sometimes things develop when a bow that is warmed inside a tent or cabin, then strung and taken out into freezing weather. Either leave it unstrung and hanging outside, or allow it to cool before stringing.

I don't believe it will be a problem, but then again I haven't seen your bow....I'm assuming I know what you are talking about as I have seen similar things before.
thanks, bigjim

OK, thanks all. It's one small spot about the size of a dime and another about the size of a half dollar. It shoots fine, hasn't spread so I think I'm ok. Hope so anyway. Thanks again!

if you post a few pictures, it will help bigjim give a more educated assessment.

I agree with Jim that it may need a refinish but it doesn't look that bad as far as creating a problem with the bows integrity.
