Caribow Tuktu Recurve
« on: November 07, 2014, 08:32:00 AM »
Received my new Tuktu yesterday - didn't have a lot of time but did manage to shoot a few arrows through it.  Initial impressions:

1.  This bow is fast - not sure but it may be the fastest bow I now own.  I do have an old Bruin and my Berry Taipan are close but I believe this one will edge them out in speed.

2.  Craftsmanship - I continue to be amazed at what modern bowyers are doing.  Abe is second to none here - this bow is cosmetically perfect.  The choice of woods is outstanding and all the glue lines are superb.

3.  Grip - Love it.  This bow just naturally sits well in my hand and encourages consistent hand placement.

4.  Noise:  Static tips definitely have a different sound to them.  However, this bow is far more quiet then I would have thought with as much limb to string contact.  The design of static tips obviously rolls the string along the limb and that helps.  It is not my quietest bow (Berry and Bruins win here) but it is quiet and I have really not played with trying t make it any quieter.  I would have no problem hunting with this bow exactly as Abe shipped it.

5.  How does it shoot: Initial impressions are this bow is very shootable and naturally places an arrow where I look.  I have done nothing to this bow (it was a stock bow off the shelf) and just grabbed some 55/75 Gold Tips with a big nasty 205 grain Simmons and shot it.  No paper tuning, no bare shafting, no messing with brace or nok height….just pulled it out of the box, strung it and shot it.  Results -  I was shooting  3- 4 inch groups easily at 17 yards (which is good for me).  Can't wait to get back home and spend more time with it.

The last point is this – this bow is a 58" model but man when strung it is more like a 54 inch bow.  I think this will be a perfect tree stand or blind bow as it is short, easy to point and lethal – may be the perfect hunting weapon????  Now I might have to get another in a takedown version for those distant shores…..

Very happy with this bow.  I will try to get some pics to post and post some additional thoughts when I get back from Ohio

Those bows are beautiful.  I'd like to shoot one.

I shot the pass around tuktu.  I absolutely loved the grip! Great design, points naturally, and settles in the hand with repeatability.  Loved it so much I ordered a 2 piece featherhorn.
