Honestly, making a good string just takes two things--good information and practice. With those two ingredients, even I can do it.
As someone already said, "best" has a lot to do with opinion. What's the best bow, the best arrow, the best broadhead, etc? Get into the better ones, they will all get the job done well--just boils down to what you like personally.
I love making strings, I study strings and materials, and am very fortunate to have a great working relationship with BCY (who is, without a doubt, the best bowstring material manufacturer!)
Like all the other stuff, you'll just have to force yourself to try out different ones and see what works best for you. At least strings are cheaper than bows!
