Gold tip inserts. HELP!!!!
« on: November 09, 2014, 02:12:00 PM »
Ok. I have tried 2 ton epoxy. Jb weld. Hot melt. Cold melt. Big Jim's. I prep them. Clean them and still have some move if I bear down on them. What the heck??

Be sure to clean the inside of the carbon shaft. There's dust in there.....
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I have tried all 3 inserts I guess the long 50 grain aluminum fit best. I rough both the insert and inside the shaft then clean with acetone.  Bill

I use Big Jim's hot melt stick with a glue gun and an alcohol burner to preheat the insert. Run a brass bore brush in them with a drill motor and then swab them out with a Q-Tip dipped in 91% alcohol. Best stuff I've found since Easton quit selling the black Quick Hit Insert Adhesive. I'm using the 50 grain aluminum inserts and I only put glue on about the last inch of the insert.

I don't understand what you mean by "move if I bear down on them". Are you talking about twisting them? I don't normally epoxy mine in because I may want to change them at some point, but I have never had any trouble with them loosening with hot melt glue. I can guarantee you if I epoxied them in you couldn't get them loose without twisting the shaft in half.

I shoot GT shafts and use the Quick Stick hot melt from Big Jim's. The only insert I have had come loose was an arrow that missed a target and dead centered a big rock. The tip was ruined, as well as the 100gr brass insert. I just heated it up and removed/replaced it. I have never lost an insert in a target since going to the Quick Stick glue.

I clean the inserts with acetone, the inside shaft with brass bore brush by hand and a Q -tip with some acetone too,but not too much, I heat the insert and add some cold melt , this is work for me.

I don't even clean them. Just hot melt from three rivers and they stay in every brand shaft I have used.

I did a couple tonight. I did notice the long aluminum inserts(50 grainers) seem much better fitting. They seem to be better tolerance for sure. I did epoxy them but feel I probably could of got by with hot melt on those. I think the problem with some of the GT inserts are they have to much play to start with.   Bill

We don't ever have any problem with the gold tip inserts and hot melt...don't even clean first.

The older brass inserts were designed to fit all 5/16" shafts but are sloppy in the the Gold tips. They won't stay as well as the 100g brass or the 50 g aluminum from Gold Tip.
