no deer but great day (Pic's)
« on: September 29, 2007, 05:27:00 PM »
did not see any deer today but had a great day watching the woods come alive and being part of it. the place i was hunting this morning had NO acorns or beech nuts on the ground and i fear it will not yield any this year which is suprising as just 2 miles away there are acorns falling but no beech. how are things in other parts where you hunt? around 8:00 i look to my left and a big porcupine abled right under my stand on the way to his den tree which is about 10 yards away. it was awesome watching him climb the tree and disappear in a hole that i woulkd have never believed he could fit in. he looked huge as he approched the den hole and then he just laid his quills back like if you were petting your dog and gently went in for a nap! all in all it was a great day!

Been thinking of you out there, and wondering how it went. Looks like a special day indeed.
A big beech fell over at my archery club, and it was loaded with nuts. Acorns are dropping fat and heavy, and squirrels are cutting hickories. I will see my hunting spot next week.  :)

Thought that tree looked familiar. Nice pics of that porcupine, I have had one eating crabapples and pears in the yard for a while. Sorry there werent any deer, but that means you can hunt another day. Thanks for the update.

thanks for sharing your day with us. in M.I. we can start hunting monday. I'm sorry to say this year is the most unprepared i've ever been. I have 1 stand up but just as you stated just being there when the woods wakes up and haveing some quiet time with bow in hand, that speaks volumes.

Glad you had a safe hunt. Nice pics of the porker! I saw two bucks while on the ground this morning. Then I saw eight turkeys hens and a young doe that hung around all evening by my stand by the creek.

Going to PM you a video clip of a the 10 point I saw this morning.

Ken great pictures thanks for sharing. I got out 1/2 a day myself. Very winding in the AM would have been better for still hunting. I didn't see any   deer, just a MOMMA and two cubs. The cubs were playing under my tree.
Wish I would have brought my camera in the woods with me. I'll have to start. Man Joe did some job on that yellow bow of yours! By the way where's Bolton Landing in relation to you. I have cousins up there. They've been wanting me to come up for years now. Good Hunting!
