It happens . I've had some success with both longbow and recurve. Halloween day I missed five shots at two deer!

Question...if you can remember clearly...did you immediately upon release look for your arrow?

I am betting that you did in fact pull your head up to watch for the impact.

I can empathize... missed a an 8pt on Saturday.  I'm blaming a temporary cerebral malfunction as the reason for the arrow flying right over his back!  Looking back on it, everything about the shot was wrong and it started with me not being calm or thinking clearly.  I can't underscore enough how important those two things are.

I was out again yesterday and thought I was going to have a shot opportunity at another buck.  This time I felt calm, my head was clear and all I needed was for the buck to take one more step.  It didn't happen, but everything about it felt right and I was confident that my arrow would find vitals if the shot was there.
