G. Fred Asbell - Stalking and Ground Hunting
« on: November 11, 2014, 12:19:00 PM »
Wanted to take a minute to publicly thank Fred Asbell for his book on Stalking and Ground Hunting.  He has changed me (back) to hunting the way I did in the 1960's.  I thought it would be more difficult.  But, it's actually easier.  However,  like anything else, you have to learn a few things along the way.  And that took a while to perfect.

Took a beautiful big 8 pt. Whitetail on a Stalk two years ago by using the pattering of the rain to hide sound and the wet ground to minimize my sound.  Walked right up on him as he slept.

Made a quickie ground blind this last Saturday out of the center of a growth of golden rod, because there were no good trees close enough for a treestand. (Besides, it was quicker and easier than a treestand). Popped a nice doe for the freezer two hours later at 12 to 13 yards.  Seemed like I was taking candy from a baby, it was so easy.

His book should be owned by everyone.  Made more out of my hunting.

Thanks again, Fred.

I have been ground hunting for two years and have loved every minute.  Have seen and gotten close to lots of critters, including deer, no shots yet, but getting closer to pay dirt all the time.  I have been meaning to read this book, I think it will definitely teach me a few things I hadn't thought of, can't wait to snag a copy.

Stalking & Still-Hunting the Ground Hunters Bible, just happens to be laying on the coffee table in front of me, just re-read it last week.

Great read, Fred is one of my favorite writers.

Where's the best place to get a copy of this book?

Crittergetter,
The upper left link next to 3rivers, on the pow wow main page, that is currently paying tribute to our vets. Should be the G. Fred Asbel website. A number of our other fine sponsors carry it as well.

One of my favorite books! A must have book, very informative and a very practical book to have if interested in ground hunting.

Not only is Fred a great writer but one of the best guys you'll ever meet. His wife Teresa is a gem of a woman too! Both are great folks and am blessed to have had the opportunity to meet them at a shooting clinic. Fred and Teresa are both very personable and have hospitality for guests down to a science. Can't say enough good things about them.
