capping carbon arrows

Can anyone advise as to the type of paint that might be used to cap dip or spray carbon arrows? Or is there any type of paint that is  a no no?

im having a hell of a time getting gasket lacquer to stick on the arrow.  if it clanks against anything it chips and the the whold dip goes to down the tubes and you have to work like crazy to get all the old lacquer off and find something else to replace it with.  Im not sure.. I am working a set of practice arrows using Krylon spray paint with a clear sealer sprayed over it.  But i wont how well that works for a while.  Good luck.

You can always use Wraps instead.

I use Bohning lacquer with no problems on black carbon arrows, however I cannot get it stick to the cx heritage shafts. They seem to be to slick or something. Have'nt tried Goldtips but they look kinda like the Heritage. What kind are you trying to dip?

Wraps are way easier to clean up(put'em in hot water  then peel off)than the paint. There is a thread on arrow making that has a great deal on them.

wraps....totally the way to go with carbons.  I just bought a roll of fluorescent yellow vinyl of ebay for under 4 dollars and it will be enough for a lifetime supply and then some!

thanks for the advise so far I am working to cap some black Goldtips but I also use the Beman classics. I have used the wraps but they don't wear really well for me. I may just have to fletch more often on my carbons and learn to like the wraps. I got some fancy ones and the ink on them smears where they run over the shelf.

I use Krylon or Rustoleum then seal that with a water-based poly to keep it from chipping

Since the first carbons came out to us (Easton ACC, PC) we have always used Flecthlac products with no problems.  It's all in the prep work. light sand, clean real well with acetone, then dip. you can put a thin coat of fletchlac clear for a base coat if you like........Mark

I started using my air brush for taxidermy and it works sweet.  You can even do it after they are fletched
