Need some help

don't post much but need help. Son in law shows interest in trying traditional archery would like to help him, but all my bows are left handed and he is right handed, he's a big fella 6'4". What length bow should I try and start him with? I can find 58" and 60" bows all day long thinking he would need 62" or 64"would like to get some opinions on what length bow recurve or londbow and what poundage to start with?

One thing I learned long ago is that trying to determine draw length based solely on height is an exercise in futility...I am under 6 feet yet I draw as much as 31 inches depending on the bow...I know of one individual who is 5 ft 9 inches who also draws 30 inches...on the other hand there are many taller folk who draw less...so the first thing you need to do is determine his actual draw length...if he draws less than 30 inches there are lots of 60 inch bows that will work rather nicely for him...if he draws 30 inches or more then 62 or 64 inches might be a better starting length...the same goes for draw weight...there are a lot of factors there too, such as his general strength and conditioning and his willingness to work at it...agreed bad habits can creep in with too much draw weight, but even that is not a given...I know you want a quick fix here but I am going to follow the thinking of some very wise and experienced people...you really do need to get him somewhere that he can try a variety of bows of differing length and draw weight

Samick Sage comes in 62", and would be a good starter bow for him.  Probably start him off with 40# limbs, which could result in an actual draw weight of 45# if he draws 30".  The bow is inexpensive and extra limbs are available if you guess wrong on the weight the first time around.

You definitely want a low poundage bow to start him off right, because form is everything, it's like riding a bike, let him learn the right way the first time. This way he is much less likely to pick up bad habbits and it will also be much more enjoyable.

Yall plan to visit McCalla Al in late Feb. he can try out bows until he's blue in the face. Yall will have lots of fun.
