grouse/ptarmigan/moose in Newfoundland

So I have been granted permission by my lovely wife to go moose hunting but with the stipulation of best chance for success at bringing home meat. I live in Indiana so Newfoundland is my best option. But given that moose hunting is often a morning and evening situation, I am asking about small game to while away the midday hours. I have looked at several outfitter sites and they do not mention grouse/ptarmigan which I think are dandy for bowhunting. Anyone know of outfitters that allow this? I am still researching outfitters for the moose so any suggestions there is important. I plan to go in 2016 or 2017. Thank you.

Depending on the time of year you're planning on going, don't ignore midday for moose hunting. I was there the first week of October and we were frequently into moose around lunch and in the early afternoon after the bulls had finished tending the morning cows.

You can buy a non resident small game license that permits taking grouse, ptarmigan and snowshoe hares. The grouse/ptarmigan season starts mid September, and hares in early October. Depending where you are, small game shouldn't be too hard to come by.

As Clay said, moose hunting is an all day affair. Both of my moose were taken between 11am and noon. Not sure about other outfitters but at mine, the hunters spent all day - 7am-7pm with their guide. The only 'down time' is the 30 minutes to have a sandwich and figure out which direction you will be going next.
I saw a few ptarmigan last year that would have been easy targets @ less than 10yds but - no license. Never saw one this year. There are at least two types of rabbits but in two trips I haven't seen any. The only non-moose animal that I saw that I could have legally taken had they been close enough were several coyotes.

I was looking at some of the outfitters, but I didn't see any that posted cost. Just curious, ballpark figure, what is the cost of a guided moose hunt in Newfoundland?

In the neighborhood of $5000-$6000 for the outfitter and is pretty much all inclusive with the exception of meat processing and shipping (if you need it). Add another $1000 for getting there, motels, food, etc.

Well, that pretty much rules that out. Wishful thinking I suppose. Thanks for the info Pete

I am thinking of finding an outfitter that has remote ( no roads) access. Any suggestions?
