Bow noise: Black Widow takedown vs Black Widow one piece
« on: December 27, 2014, 08:00:00 PM »
So is one more inherently quiet than the other? I'd guess that the one piece would be, but I was reading on another site that some guys thought the takedown is.

I only have the takedowns and I do not have any trouble with the noise they make and all the deer I have killed never complaned.     Widow

I have had both, I cannot say that I could tell  any difference with bows that I had.

Can't tell the difference. I have both in long bow and recurves.

I don't see how there could be a difference, other then the t/d being heavier and soaking up more vibrations.

You got me thinking with that question and my quietest bows are one piece...my 3 piece takedown bows are more than quiet enough for hunting even without silencers...string construction and thoughtful brace height adjustment will trump bow construction every time...I have two takedown bows that are noisy unless I keep the brace height on the low side...normally I really dislike low brace height but those two have such well designed grips a low brace height is not an issue...I have never owned a Widow, and only ever shot one, but I am sure the same thing would apply for them as they sure appear to be well made bows

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Thanks guys.

I would think that a one piece would be a bit quieter, all things being equal, due to no bolts, etc. But takedowns are usually heavier, which probably evens things out.

I've had both, never noticed a difference.
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.

honestly I had 4 BW's two PSA's 1 MA and 1 TF and compared to my other bows they where louder sounding to me out of the box BUT I blame it on the silly spider silencer and the string they send.   get a string with a nice padded loop and decent silencers of your choice and you will be amazed at the difference.

I will agree though that the stock string as much as I didn't care for it works at killing deer if that's all you had.

Interesting Dave. Do you think it is a mass weight thing?

My PCH is the most quiet recurve I have ever had, like Dave said just a thump.Have Wooley Whisper silencers and brush buttons on it.Of course 635 grain arrows when shooting 55# helps too.

I just bought a one piece Black Widow PLX longbow this past August and a take down BW PLX in December. I'm using the Black Widow strings on both bows. You can't tell the difference between the two in regards to noise, feel and how the bows shoot. Everything about them are the same. They shoot great, Toby grips are awesome/w beaver tail leather and very quiet when braced properly shooting a heavier arrow. Going forward I will be buying the take down due to its functionality.

BW stock string and silencers is all I've used. After proper setup and tuning, I find them as quiet as any.

I have a one piece PAII and it is super quiet.  Use yarn balls and put limb pocket silencers on em and they'll whisper.
