Simmons heads on wheelie sharpener...help needed

I recently bought some 190 grain Simmons Treesharks, and after the raving reviews I bought the wheelie sharpener as well.

I looked at the pictures in the product review forum, but for the life of me can not get them sharp at all.

Is there anyone out there that knows of a video showing how to sharpen Simmons on the wheelie sharpener, or would be willing to make one?

I get that there are many other options out there, but I'm going to do my due diligence with the wheelie sharpener before I spend $100 on a KME or $60 on a jewelstik.

Don't press hard.  Very soft.  Sometimes holding the sharpener on a slight angle (down. not left / right) helps.  I like to push the broadhead into the wall in my shop (already on an arrow) and pull the sharpener thru the head, instead of pulling the broadhead thru the sharpener (I am holding the arrow under my left arm, pulling the sharpener with my right).

Chucks method worked the best for me, although I will admit that I could never get them as sharp with a wheelie as I can with a jewelstick.  Good luck.

I don't use a wheelie sharpener but I use the carbide sharpeners which is similar on Simmons heads. I concur with Chuck, try to keep the blade horizontal as you pass it over the sharpener, that's what he's talking about with the angle I think, so since it's a curved blade you have to rotate it front to back as you pass it across the wheels. THEN you need to follow it up on a strop with polishing compound to get it real sharp, I do this no matter what I use to do the initial sharpening. Even with the KME when I sharpen my single bevel heads.

Best thing I have found to sharpen mine is the steelmaster they sell, works great !!

I have found that using the razor edge system you can get simmons heads surgically sharp. I have never had good luck getting anything extra sharp with a wheel type sharpener, rather it is most important to establish a burr on either side before putting a fine edge.

This is very easy to use and works incredibly.

On new heads I use a chainsaw file to true up the entire edge before I start with the wheelie. I then pull through with pressure until I feel less resistance. I finish with lighter pulls. When you've got it you will feel almost nothing when you pull through the wheels.

Practice on a dull knife to get the feel before you try the curvey heads. As you sharpen a knife even the tone changes as you pull.

On new heads I use a black marker to see what is actually coming off. Once a good edge is established it is very easy to touch up after use.

This has got to be one of the best broad head guides i've seen.... Love to have one of those 3 sided diamond steels....

I always used a chainsaw file and a diamond steel by hand without the guides myself. With some practice you can get your angles right without the guide.... instinctive sharpening...

It really is the best thing that I have found.. I have tried them all but this is the deal for simmons curved blade. I have found the three sided jewel stick to be a must as well, as its curved sided make sharpening the curved blades much easier.

you can literally get them scalpel sharp with this system.

Alex... it just might be that your edges are just a breath away from what you want. Stropping or a little light honing can make all the difference.

Turn one of your best coffee mugs upside down on the counter. Stroke the edge lightly and sparingly on the unfinished bottom. It just might turn the trick.

Also try stropping on a piece of leather or even a piece of 2x4.

Thanks all, I'll try out some of the suggestions. I agree the Razors Edge/Jewelstick method looks dead fool proof - just don't want to drop the $40 if I don't have to is all.

I'm patient, so hopefully I can get a little better edge the second time around.

I have tried wheelie,and steel master hands down just spend the $$ and get the razorsedge guide and Hewlett 3 sided jewelstik now I can shave with them

unless damaged I found the simmons sharp from the pack.
Only thing needed was hit on ceramic rods and then stropped on leather.
I thing over working a head does more harm than good

wheelie only starts the edge and gives it a concave to the bevel,  I go from that to a file and very lightly file each side then to the simmons ceramic rods in the clamps and its plenty sharp enough.  

I want to try the diamond rod sharpeer or jewelers stick on these too
