Anyone Shoot a CARSAGE Recurve??

Hey all,

Been curious about a CARSAGE bow and might want to give one a try.  Pretty hard to beat a $40 riser and $70 limbs, if they shoot well.

I haven't read anything about them for a while and I don't know if they are still popular or were just a fad that has passed on.

I would need the riser and the 45 pound Sage limbs.  That's what I shoot.  I wouldn't need to go higher.
How does the bow handle and shoot at that weight?  If I were to build up to 50, are there any issues at that weight?

I'd like to know if there are any issues I need to know about or consider before making a decision to try one.

What do you all think about these bows?

The Cartel riser isn't really made for weights over 40 pounds. I've read on another site that you can get away with 45 but that's taken a chance in my book. For another 20 bucks you can have the full Sage and no issues with stronger limbs later on. A really good inexpensive bow.

There are other risers that the sage limbs will bolt onto. Try finding a Bear Blackbear compound riser. Later on if you feel like you want the ILF option, you can get plates or just have the dovetails milled into the pockets.

I've got 3 of them. 40,45,50. I've had no issues with the 50 lb. bow. I did get better strings for each. Made a world of difference!!!

Mine are mainly used for bowfishing. The risers are suited well for wet use and boat abuse.

Two sets of limbs I bought for under $50 and one set was purchased for $30. A new sage is inexpensive and they are great shooting bows for the money.

The Carsage is just another choice for someone wanting a cheap T/D recurve. If you shop around you can find good deals on used limbs.

If it was the only bow I had to shoot I wouldn't hesitate to use it for any event. Hunting, Fishing, 3D ......

These guys nailed.  Strongly consider a Black Bear riser as was said, if you don't mind a 21" riser it is one of the best balanced and comfortable cheap risers you can find.  If you thread a 5" Doinker stab on onto it it will balance perfectly vertical in your hand, and the option to convert to ILF later is awesome.

I already have a HOYT EXCEL 21 inch.  I like it fine and have been thinking of trying some other ILF riser for a change.

As for the CARSAGE, I'd thought about trying one and just seeing how it works and shoots.  Its not an expensive setup and if I decided to get one, I hoped that I could find a set of limbs cheap like Bretto talked about.

I know I could get a SAGE bow, but I swear I may be in the extreme minority on this, but I think the SAGE is one UGLY BOW.  I don't like it at all.  I really like other SAMICK stuff, just not the SAGE.

I've just been curious about it for a while and thought I might give it a try.


As for WARFed stuff.  I've had a ProLine WARF for about 4 years and liked it fine.  I sold it to get my Excel 21 inch.
I would get another WARF if I could find one shorter than 21 inch and lighter than my ProLine used to be.  I didn't like how HEAVY that riser was.  It felt like it weighed a TON in the hand.  That's part of the reason I got rid of it.

I have heard tales of WARFable risers out there that are shorter than 21 and have a light mass weight.  BUT...I've never seen one and they apparently are very hard to find.  When people get them, they hang onto them like nobody's business.

If you know of what risers fit that description, how about posting it up so I can start looking for one and maybe get lucky.

Just do the boltdown... About as cheap as you can get and it shoots pretty good.

Are you guys saying that there is no fabrication needed on a black bear riser to bolt samick limbs to it??

All you have to do is remove the limb bolt bushing from the limb and shim the sides of the limb in the bear pocket. I used the sage limb pocket pressed into the blackbear pockets.

Can you tell me how you removed the bushings out of the Sage limbs?

I thought about trying to hammer the bushing out from the bottom end but was worried I might damage /crack the limb in the process.
