Thoughts on GT vs AD shafts
« on: January 12, 2015, 10:53:00 AM »
Hey guys,

It seems impossible to find any AD nitro stinger yellow shafts at the moment, so I am on to plan B.

I know I like the trad lites, but there are some things about them that drive me nuts too. So I was considering also the GT Velocity Shafts. They will end up with about the same FOC as the AD's.

Here's what I know:

AD trad lites are the best shaft I have shot so far meaning they are the most forgiving and I shoot better. I attribute this to the high FOC as compared to others. So this leads me to believe that the GT Velocity shafts should be about the same if they are about the same FOC.

I hate the AD nocks and am now using the glue in adapters but still dont love them. I would love to run a true 5/16 shaft with a nice glue on nirk nock like can be done on the GT.

I dont know how durable the lightweight GT shafts are but I have had good luck with the AD's in that department. However they seem to break at the nock end occasionally.

I have a couple of GT showing up soon to try and compare. Do any of you have experience with these two shafts?

For those of you guys who really like how the AD shafts shoot, would you attribute that to the inherent high FOC or to something else?

Haven't had any experience with the GT Velocity shafts, but do shoot some GT Entrada Ultralight's on one of my target bows.Haven't broken any shooting them into targets.I do shoot AD Trad's and Trad Lite's,they are a fine arrow.I prefer on my AD's to use a G-bushing and lg G-nocks over the factory nocks or the glue-on nock adapters for glue-on nocks.I like the nock tunablity of the G-bushing and feel it helps to strengthen the nock end of the shaft. The glue-on nock adatper's fit best with a 9/32" nock.Usally most 9/32" nocks have too small of a nock throat that I like.I think that a tapered carbon will have more FOC then a parallel shaft with the same point weight. Most carbons are tougher then most other arrow types.I think the AD's are tougher then the GT.Because they have a higher GPI.Shot some AD Nitro Stinger orange label, they have a lighter GPI but stiffer then the Trad's and Trad Lite's.The Nitro yellow labels are their lightest spine I think in the 6.5 GPI range.I feel the lighter GPI carbons can't be as tough as the heavier GPI carbons.

I feel the tapered AD's are more spine tolerant then most other carbons. But then there are more factors involved in tuning carbons for traditional bows. There are bows cut past center, cut to center and cut off center and many more factors.

I have all three, AD trads, light and regular, GT entrada and velocity. I think the velocity replaces the entrada since I could not find it on GT web site. I have had no problems with toughness with either of these shafts. I shoot GT in 300 and 340 spine. The AD will shoot from a wider range of bow weights due to there design. I also like the bushing and G nock with AD giving the ability to easily adjust nock and use nocturnal nocks.

I find parallel carbon shafts the most finicky of any type or material of shaft. The AD shafts don't have as good straightness, spine and weight tolerances and still outshoot parallel shafts. For me anyhow.
I have a fortune in parallel shafts laying around the basement.
Plus the AD shafts are the toughest on earth! No reason to ever use the footing I see people adding to shafts.
But Like a dummy, I'll soon get out some configuration of high priced parallel shaft and go through a test session until my arm hurts.
