Mike...Garmin Oregon 600.  Done.  Seriously.  :-)

I have owned many GPSs and I am always on the hunt for the next one.  This one is the best right now for hunting.

Get your maps here:  gpsfiledepot.com

And practice as someone mentioned.  They are fairly easy to use, but you don't want to orient yourself with one, when you need to orient yourself. :-)

Thought of you today I was perusing a bowhunter mag. And  in the product review section. The guy wrote how he's a map,and compass guy and is not a electronic gadgety kind of guy. But really likes, the garmin 550. Easy to use and the touch screen was easy for his old eyes to see. And where his buddies are looking for openings in the tree tops to link up to satellites. His 550 would link up in 30 seconds even in the thickest overhead cover.
I can attest to that benefit I have a Garmin Legends. And I got turned around a,few, years back and was, trying to use my Legends  to get back to my truck and I would  have to find a clear opening in the tree tops to link up the satellites. Then I would start walking through the trees again and loose  my signal.  So I'd have to repeat the whole process over again it got me out but it was more of a pain than it needed to be.
Good luck on your choice and your hunt.
Tim..
