talk to me about serving
« on: January 19, 2015, 05:32:00 PM »
I've been using BCY braided serving for a long time, and am getting low. I believe it's a Spectra/Dyneema blend ? What are some of you guys using and why do you like it ? Anybody use plain old Nylon? The price sure looks nice.

I swap out between 62XS and Halo, but will be trying out the new Power Grip soon.  All three work well and are very durable.

Nylon will work, and it's cheap...but it's not nearly as durable and only comes in one size.

Shoot me a p.m. or e-mail and I may be able to help out.

Nylon works great. I also use what you have been using. Only thing, if you serve in a nock point, I don't like nylon for that.

I started making my own strings last fall and went with 62xs. Seems to be very tough and and smooth on release. Compared to nylon its night and day as far as nock wear. Seems i always had issuse with serving wear and serving loosening up with other strings. I plan on staying with b55 and 62xs until i decide to try the high performance fast flight any way.

I use nylon on Dacron or polyester strings and Halo on by DF97 strings.  I love how smooth the Halo is.  I got some of the new Power grip and am dying to try it.

I use Halo .025. I have used Power Pro 80# Spectra braided fishing line in a pinch with good success. It's priced right too.

JRY, if you like the Majesty serving you might want to try the Power Grip.  Very similar, but costs a lot less.

I have a bunch of Majesty serving to sell at a bargain if interested.  Going to use Power Grip instead.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like Halo and 62xs are pretty popular. I also found some .020 Polygrip that I've used in the past  on my 12-strand Astroflight strings and it wore well. Not sure what it is?

Chad - thanks for the heads-up on the nylon, I need the option of a couple different sizes.

Polygrip is BCY's braided polyester.  A little more durable than nylon, not nearly as durable as Halo or 62XS.  Comes in 2 sizes, .020  and .025.

For comparison, Halo comes in .014, .017, .019, .021, .024, and .030

62XS comes in .018, .021, and .025

Power Grip comes in .018, .021, .025, and .032
