Northeast Texas hunters!
« on: October 04, 2007, 02:13:00 AM »
I am new to using a bow and hunting also, I hunted a little in high school a while back. I got bit with the bow bug last November and have been itching to hunt. I went last Sunday on public land, don't know any other places to go, at Tawakoni WMA. I scouted the area 3 times during that week beforehand, couldn't find much deer sign, a few possible bedding areas and some old tracks. Found a lot of hog sign, that is everywhere. I've been out there 4 times and haven't seen anything. My question is: Would anyone be interested in hunting with me and helping me with the ropes, like finding signs and whatnot, I really would like to a least see something, maybe someday try and shoot at it?

I am in Point, 6 miles north of Emory. Tawakoni WMA is at the north end of Lake Tawakoni, east of Dallas about 45 min. or so off highway 69.

Jmar,

I am still trying to find time to come see you and maybe hunt. Work just keeps getting in the way. Maybe in November I can make it happen. WMA's can be great. Just have to get away from people.

I would still like to meet and do a shoot. Is there anyone that would want to hunt with me? I went yesterday morning. I went in early about 5:45. Found a spot at the edge of a field that looked promising and sat and waited. The spot was an old spot a hog had made in some tall grass by an old tree. After sitting there for about 4 hours or so, I decided to look a little, so I went across the field to see a good size pond on the other side. I found a HUGE hog trail and went down it quite a ways.

Found this on the trail:

Not sure what kind it is, is it hog?
