What arrows are you using for your 70# plus recurve?
« on: February 14, 2015, 09:49:00 PM »
I'll be getting a Robertson Prairie Falcon that should be around 75lbs at my draw length and I'm trying to figure out what arrows I want to shoot out of it. I want to shoot 300 grains up front so I'm thinking about the gold tip kinetic .200 spine arrow. If I could cut down a 300 spine and get it to work I would have a wider selection of arrows. I'd like my arrow to be 9gpp or heavier, I wouldn't mind trying woods either if I could figure out what spine I need. Just trying to figure out what arrows the heavy weight shooters have in their quivers.

Thanks, Logan

A lot of variables. I used kinetic 200's out of my Morrison ILF with carbon foam limbs.  82# @ 29', with 100 grain inserts, 125 grain broadhead adapter and 300 grain broadhead. Arrows just a hair over 30".  I suspect they will be too stiff for you unless you leave them a good bit longer.  If you only draw 28", you probably can get the 300 spine arrows to work.

I draw 29", I'm hoping a 300 spine works with the 300gr up front and cut it down as short as possible. Thanks for the info!

I will ask Gary what mine are.  I draw 29" with 300 VPAs up front.

Beman Bowhunter/Hunter 300's 28.5" lg with 100gr insert and 150gr head.  76lb Silvertip.

These may not be stiff enough for you with 300gr up front and your draw length.

Carbons were not made yet when I could shoot 70#.  But a 2117 worked really well.

90-95# Surewoods from my 76# static recurve.  I shoot thumb style and draw 36", though.

Logan you are not factoring in the Camroot string...the arrow I like in that sort of situation is a 250 spine Dangerous Game but I have a feeling you may need to go with the 200 spine you referred to...thanks for buying that bow...I have too many now

GT ultralight 300 for me with over 500 grains up front with footings and pulling 71#s.  That arrow should work for you with only 300 up front at 31.5 inches or less.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm thinking about going with wood arrows for this bow. I've always wanted to build my own woods and I think woods would be cheaper for this bow compared to the carbons I'm looking at.

Dave its my pleasure to buy this bow from Cameron! I can't wait to get the bow in my hands and start bare shaft tuning it.
