Ok guys, I had always been a three blade shooter but made the switch this past season to Simmons safaris and was very impressed! Great penetration and tough!

I have been using the 205 screw in w/ 75gr brass insert and 25gr footing on a 400 axis trad.

However I have been looking at the single bevel abowyers pretty closely recently and would love to hear some options from those of you that have used and harvested with both.

I have a feeling that I will be getting a lot of "you can't go wrong with either," but please give any good/bad experiences you may have had with both.

Thanks guys.

I used simmons heads for many years to go along with snuffers.  Lately had tremendous luck with Tuffheads and grizzly kodiaks. Shorter blood trails and higher percentage at all angles.

Have you seen Byron Ferguson's new head?

There are pics on the thread by Ron LaClair.

Just saw those, pretty wicked!

A little too fancy for my blood though..

A bowyer?

Are abowyers heads solid one piece heads or are they brazed like grizzlies?

The Abowyers, are a solid blade, the ferrel is welded to the blade. They are a solid broadhead, hard to beat!
Thanks,

I guess if we run into the bear that is making these tracks, we oughta just get off the trail.......He seems to like it!

I've shot deer with both, both great heads.  Centuar Archery has their Biggame Broadhead which is basically a single bevel Simmons.  Shot one deer with one and it performed flawlessly, but the shot was center lungs so it wasn't much of a test.  Hope to put a couple through hogs in the next couple weeks.

I have considered the centaurs but don't know if it would make much difference compared to what I am shooting now? Please correct me if I am wrong, but I have the double bevel Simmons shooting like darts, would I have any other advantage switching to the single bevel centaur?

Msbow

Tradbrew,
A single bevel head does have advantages, but I don't think its enough to go out and buy new heads. IMHO if the ones you're using now are working. Use them till they break or lose them. Then go get some new heads to try.

Abowyer all the way. That is one kick ass BH.

Abowyer x 6 years. I shoot their Wapiti head combined with a 75 gr steel adapter to equal 250 gr total head weight. I can get them 100% as sharp as any head I've ever used, and maybe sharper. Good edge retention and no evidence of dulling beyond what is normal for shooting through an animal. I have yet to bend any Abowyer head, or damage any ferrule. Excellent finish, near-perfect grind and a good strong tanto tip. I could choose any head I want but when I MUST have a super-performing head I go with my Abowyers. I don't think a better head exists at any price.
