Tung Oil tree
« on: October 04, 2007, 05:25:00 PM »
I read the Why Osage thread and I have not made a bow but have an abundance of Tung Oil trees on my property that spread when the owner had planted them in his pasture to sell during the war.If this wood is any good I could let some of my freinds have some to make bows.Anybody try tung oil trees for a bow. Thanks Kip

I would be willing to try a self bow. Any nut or fruit tree wood should work!

Found this statement re: Tung tree wood on Floridata.com

"Tung trees have soft wood that is easily shattered by strong winds, so they should not be planted too close to buildings."

Usually "soft wood" and bow don't go together well. If you make a bow out of Tung wood, wear a helmet and eye protection!
