Feather grinding system

Just got my copy of Traditional Bowhunter and on the back cover was an add for Great Northern feather grinding system has anyone used this and if so how did you like it......stabow

I had one worked as advertised, sold it in the classifieds here on the gang, I use the vise grips with the clamp on em now and do just as well. Stripped a few a couple weeks ago and gonna mount a few of these and if they hold up well there will be no more grinding for me. Xs 2 on the respirator!

I bought one after years of using two pieces of thin sheet metal clamped aver the arrow on a stationary belt sander.  The Great Northern jig does a much better and more consistent grind than I could get with my rig and eye.

I have a friend with the great northern and it does a great job. I have the clamp with vice grips and it does a fine job as well. I would think it just depends on how much you want to spend on a grinding set up. Or if you have a belt disc sander vs a drill press. If you have both suppose it goes back to how much you want to spend.

I own the GN jig and the best feature is repeatability. All of the bases are exactly the same width and height. If you don't want to drop the dough you could build a jig that works the same way, but I do recomend that you use a jig for uniformity.

Works awesome!!! My 10 year old son does them now. MAKE SURE you wear at least some sort of dust mask. I have my son wear goggles too.

Made my own grinding clamp from a old vice grips and some stainless sheet metal. Just welded them together...works great with my belt sander.

I agree with most the people on here. The Great Northern Grinding system works really well. I always hook up a shop vac to the back of my drill press to keep most of the dust from going everywhere. I have ground 1000's of feathers one the same jig.
