How many strands of B50?

How many strands should I use of B50 to make a string for a 110# bow?

Think I used 21 strands of B-55 for a 125# bow...and I think that's what I used for Bob Mayo's (Ace Broadheads) 130# selfbow.

I have always preferred a heavy 18 strand string even on my lighter bows and I think you would be fine with that.  I use the speed nocks and 21 strands would be the limit without opening the nocks up some.

Need to make it 3 or 4" shorter than normal also.  Going to stretch like crazy.

Will a 20 strand be enough on the nicks at that weight?

Should be plenty. Even at 35# breaking strength, that would put you at 750# (static).

Had a buddy who shot at 95# bow.  Seems he used 18 strands of B50.  I think I'd start with 20 and get the thinnest serving you can find.

I made a string for a 90# yew longbow once. I don't remember how many strands I used but I do remember that it stretched a whole bunch, just as Chad warns.
As I let down on the stringer the bowstring stretched so that it trapped my hand hard against the grip. I was so surprised that I didn't simply pull up on the grip to put the stringer back under tension. Instead I danced around for a few seconds saying things like, "Owowowowgetitoffgetitoff!"

You didn't state what the boe is made of?

Either way, I would use a h.p. material for it!

When I built a 95#@30" yew ELB it was suggested to me by guys that build War Bows to use a FF style, low stretch string.

Question for Chad, I'm really liking B-55 over B-50. Would the B-55 need to be 3-4" shorter with 20 strands on that heavy a bow? B-55 doesn't seem to stretch near as much as B-50.

B-55 won't stretch as much, but it will stretch.  

3-4" was an estimate--several variables to consider.  With that weight, the initial stretch will probably be similar, the 55 will just settle in quicker and not stretch as much over time.  Going to be trial and error.

Dave I would suggest also checking with the war bow forum on  p.a. as Pat B. states. Making strings and shooting experience with extreme weight bows are totally two different worlds!

I used to make quite a few for heavier bows, when I shot them myself (from 82-125 or so), but it's been a while and materials have changed (improved).
