Advice on arrows for 43# @ 29 Trukey Creek Longbow

I am contemplating using Axis 400, right now with Blazers on them and a 100 Gr target tip 410 Gr T/W I am not shooting them with lasers on with traditional equipment and is giving you an example of what the weight is, I anticipate putting four-inch feathers and 125 Gr Broadhead.

My bow is 43# @ 29" I would like to use the Axis 400, but if they are too stiff an arrow, I will change. I thought by adding the 125 Gr Broadhead, or target tip, it would change the stiffness enough to fly good.

I just got to go today, it's really nice, it's great looking, smooth shooting, and it shoots straight. I was using Axis 500 four fleached. But I don't know if I can 4 fletch my 400's , I've never used for fletch for hunting.

I was recommended by Doug to use 10 Gr per # of bow weight. According to this the Axis 400 work is far as the weight, but I'm worried about the stiffness, I will probably fletch some up, and shoot them tomorrow. I've also been recommended to use 3555, but I shot some today and they were 12 FPS slower and oddly enough they were lighter. The Axis 400 flew at 183 FPS, so give me some advice on this, and try not to confuse me !

I'm shooting Axis 500's from my 45# TC.  My bow is 45# @ 28" and I draw 29".  Arrows are full length with 125gr up front.  400's were stiff for me.

Just to let you know I have also switched to the Axis 500's, the 400 was to stiff for me also, there set up the same way 125 gr upfront and 5 in. three fletch feathers I cut 1 in. off of a stock arrows .  It works out great but I haven't had much time recently to be shooting, I've been working a lot in the archery shop and also I am now outreach pastor at our church.

But I find that traditional archery has a lot of examples that can be used as illustrations in my Pastoring others.  So, thanks for your advice.

I am also using the Axis 500s, 30", 175 grain tips, four fletch, from my Bob Lee Elite longbow,41#@28",I draw around 28 1/2", they shoot excellent.

The Turkey Creek Longbow I have shoots those axis 500's like darts, the penetration on a block target is about 10 in., I've yet to see what it would do on a deer, the total arrow weight 428 gr.  I figure that my shots are going to be anywhere between 5 yd. and 25 yd. that's what I would like to limit myself to, but you know how that goes, but the farthest yardage I will take would be about a 30 yd. shot.  I have let three deer walk, they were 30 yd. or more.  Just didn't feel comfortable with the shot.

And there is something about knowing that you could but you didn't, that makes the whole difference.  I think what it's done that way it's more like " hunting " then taking chances.

You may not want to go aluminum but if you consider them, I have a similar draw legnth, 29.5" and use 30.25" 1916 gamegetters and 125gr Magnus 2blade BH's, and the lightest(green) grizzly BH's, both 145gr total weight with inserts and 4 fletched 4"para low profile feathers. They fly geat off my 43lb@29 Pacific Yew LB. I don't have a chrono but the total weight is 489 gr. Perhaps too heavy if your interest is speed and lowest possible trajectory. But they are great to 20 yards. I do use GT XT3555's for my bows in the mid-50's and 200+grains up front, way too stiff for your set up unless you load at least 275Gr up front.

I have some 2018's but I didn't fletch them up for the Turkey Creek Longbow.  I think they call them "legacy" XX75's

I still have some 2114's I just chose to get away from the aluminum's, in our shop they are downsizing the aluminums to four different categories.  I'm pretty pleased with the carbon arrows, I don't have the time to put into the wood arrows.  I may go with a little heavier broadhead upfront on my 500's.  But I am waiting for my first deer killed with this setup.

I have my T 2 setup on some land and I will be hunting Saturday, but I don't think that I can use my Turkey Creek Longbow in the T2.

Gold Tip 35/55 Traditionals you can keep them full length if you want.I think they are 31"s? Try 145 grain field tips too or 175's, Aluminum= 1916's try 145/175 grain heads too.

I have a Turkey Creek long bow thats 45# @ 28". I'm using 1916's with 175 gr up front. My bow shoots them fast and quiet!
