Weighting Judo's
« on: March 24, 2015, 02:00:00 PM »
Looking to get a Judo to about 200-225 grains.  What is the trick to getting them up there.

Drill a hole in the center of the shaft and put a galvanized nail in it.  Best trick I know.

I use woody weights on my wood shafts and broadhead adapters on carbons.  Jim

The glue-on Judos with the appropriate steel adapter unless you're needing a glue-on head.

75 or 100 gr steel adapter will get you there with a glue on judo. If you really need to add another 5 or 10 grains you can use the brass collars that slip over the end of the adapter before you screw it on.  I've even melted a little lead in the judo before adding the steel adapter.

All good suggestions. This is another way,not very fancy but it works. It's just a piece of 14 ga copper wire wrapped around.I just clipped the wire till it was exactly the weight I needed and wrapped it around. It stays put.

On woods, I cut the taper shorter, then on the judo, I put a bit of glue in the tip and tap in a larger split shot with a large nail set.

75 or 100 grain Woody Weight.  You could also try some 200 grain Ace Hex blunts. Those are what I use.

I use the judo kondors a lot, with the wider spring arms...

Something I've done is take an old rubber blunt, cut the flat wide end off of it to make whatever weight I want, then slide it on the shaft backwards behind the kondor.  That way when the spring arms bend back, they don't hit a hard edge and bend, putting a kink in the spring arms.

Seems like a guy could try soldering wire, wrapped around the judo and soldered to itself, as well.

I made the device that is now sold years before it came on the market..  I it is a 11/32 hole center in a cyclinder.  it goes in 2 inches from the bottom; also centered is an 1/8 inch hole for about an inch from the top.  Chuck in the metal cylinder in a drill vice, push a shaft up from the bottom and drill from the top with a drill press.  I gave away several of them before they started selling them for $30.  You can drill down deep and use the hole as an internal footing device or to weight the shaft.  You can also use it to change spine by taking weight off the tail end before gluing on the nock.  Any machinist can make you one from scrap- as I am not a machinist and I made several in the garage.
I am looking into the wire as a viable easy alternatitive.  Good idea.

Look Into converta blunts. Think they way 75 grains. Judo fits through it just enough to screw in to an arrow.

I am shooting carbons and want to use Judos.  I have others that i use but like Judos the best.  Sounds like some 100 grain adaptors teamed up with 125 glue on Judos is the way to go.

That looks pretty nice.  I search around for them.  Might be a good option.

I will try this but I will put a tiny dab of solder on those ends to hold em.

I also wondered about threading the point so I could screw on nuts to build up weight on judos.

Way to think outside the box Jimb!
I might try that or the solder.

With the glue ons people have poured lead shot and glue into tip of the judo point, let harden and hot melt it onto a short broadhead adapter.
