Barreled shafts

Anyone use barreled or breasted shafts for hunting? I've heard a lot of good feedback about them but seems to be mostly in regards to target/3d shooting.

Up here barreled shafts are mostly used for long distance shooting. You know, shooting where the only purpose is to shoot as long as possible.

I do, I like the extra spine without the weight.

I bought some, but instead of cutting them equal on both ends to size, I just cut the point end and they shoot great, good forward weight.

They come on line faster after leaving the bow. easy to make and really work well.

I taper all mine into a breasted, or hunting taper. I just like the look. 11/32 to 5/16; 9" in back and 6" at the front.

Bjorn, what method do you use for tapering?

That's all I've shot for years when shooting woodies.

Surewood Shafts and myself purchased a custom designed and built tapering machine. Wilderness Custom Arrows makes barrel tapered arrows. If you are just wanting the shafts to make your own arrows Surewood Shafts can help you by doing the tapering on the same machine that I use.

I.always wondered if tapering the point end might impede penetration. Those who hunt with them, what say ye?
