Shooting glove question
« on: April 06, 2015, 04:02:00 PM »
Hey guys, do you see any real difference in a nice deerskin work glove and a martin style shooting glove?

In the past my favorite glove was a martin and I cut all the extra off leaving just the 3 fingers. The only thing I would have changed is that the fingers went all the way up so I had full mobility. I was just wondering if you think a nice deerskin work glove that fit well would be a better starting point?

I think a shooting glove is a better bet. It'll be hard to find a work glove with as close a fit, and that'll matter. Also the leathers used are different; again the shooting glove will likely hold up better and give a cleaner release.
A good quality deerskin work glove will cost at least as much as a decent leather shooting glove; there are some good glove options out there.

Most work gloves aren't the same quality of leather as quality shooting gloves are. If you could find a work glove that had good leather and fit good I don't see why it wouldn't work but on the other hand for pretty decent prices like 20-25 bucks you can get some really nice shooting gloves in almost any type of leather and configuration you want. Almost all the work gloves I've seen around here are also stitched differently then shooting gloves and I think where the stitching is on a glove makes a big difference in how the glove feels and releases depending on if there is stitching on the pad side of the fingers.

Most of the work gloves I have seen are not real durable. Some of us were using them for range work like replacing bales. The banding cut them up pretty quick. Look at American Leathers gloves. Their full shot is more like a whole glove. Caution: they ani't cheap but will out last you.

They have some real nice sports gloves out there that work real well.... the trick with buying dear skin work gloves is buy them small and then get em wet and stretch them out to form fit your finger tips...... that all being said... the shooting gloves still last longer.

I'm trying to get used to a tab this year myself. So far , so good.
