New string length
« on: April 24, 2015, 11:38:00 PM »
If I order a new custom string do I order exactly the length it is on my bow with the brace height correct, or slightly longer to give me some play to twist it to my brace height.

Thanks.

Depends on the bow. Give the string maker the AMO length of the bow, recurve or longbow, and actual string length.

If the sting maker use pre-streched material order exactly the string lenght that you have on you bow at the correct brace height.
At least,it's what I do.

I always order just a bit smaller. It seems like no matter what the string will stretch just a little.

Go with actual string length.

Properly made, you should be able to twist-untwist for fine tuning.  More than likely you'll need to adjust it some, especially if you are changing string materials or even strand count.

For the sake of the maker,  give them what they ask for!

Don't try to over think them on this.

X2 - usually about 1/4 to 1/2" less.  You will always get a little extra stretch and I like adding as few extra twists to the string from how I receive it as possible.

Listen to Chad he makes a quality string, he will also need recurve/longbow, string material/strand count, flemish/endless and type of nock for serving size.
shoot straight shoot often
