Determining spine help
« on: April 27, 2015, 05:52:00 PM »
I need some wood arrows that spine close to the carbons i'm currently using.. I have 2 sets of arrows I need help with, I don't understand the calculator, but I know some of you do very well, so here are my 2 set ups.

Bow one set up:
Black Widow MAIII #53@28(i draw to 29) Velcro strike plate.

1. 55/75 (.350 spine) Blood sport hunter cut to 30" with a standard 12 grain insert with a 200 grain tip up front.  3 fletched with a 12 grain arrow wrap under it.

Bow 2 set up:
Bingham Kit 66" r/d longbow.  #54@29 Velcro rest and strike plate.  Bow is cut to center.

2. Gold tip 5575 (.400 spine) 29 7/8" with standard 11 grain insert and a 145 grain tip.
3 fletched with 12 grain wrap under feathers.

I use the 3 Rivers one, but Stu Miller helped build it. I can't say if its easier or not, but it has always done very well for me. The only caveat to it is that you have to get the data exactly right. I'd say try the 3 Rivers one and see if its easier to work with. For shaft diameter for 11/32 you input .34375, but everything else is very self explanitory. Ignore the personal form calculator at first, in the future:

If you have a set up you KNOW works for you, but the dynamic spine spread is off too far, + or - the personal form until the 2 numbers are +/- 2. Thats your personal form number. So for example, you input your current set up data and calculate but you come up with a spread of 49 / 50, if you subtract 1 (or whatever) on the personnal form and it makes it 49 / 49, for future set ups just subject the 1 to the form calc. And that would be your "true" reading.

If none of this is remotely helpful I'm sorry

If there is one thing you don't need is help.  I need to bend some of your arrows for the shoot this weekend.

Try these...

125gr. point/ 30" BOP --  60-65 Spine

145gr. point/ 30" BOP --  65-70 Spine

160gr. point/ 30" BOP --  70-75 Spine

You can order a test kit from 3Rivers, tell them you're looking at these spines. Order a few dozen points of differant weights, and play around some!!! Keep us posted!!!!!

I think woodchucker is pretty close.  If anything, I'd add 5# to his recommendations. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply.  I currently have some #65 spined arrows.  Will try them out.  I am not a wood guy, but need some for the archery tourney this weekend.
