L L Bean Vs Schnee's
« on: May 09, 2015, 11:15:00 AM »
[/IMG]

A while back I reached out to TG folks to get an opinion on Schnees gum shoe boots compared to LL Bean.  I have had Beans and a pair of Bass for many years and they served me well.  Had a hard time spending an extra $100 for a pair of Schnees so I reached out to the big auction site and scored on a great pair of 8" high uninsulated.  Just what I wanted.  First of the sizing was right on 11 was what I normally take and these 11 fit perfect with a medium sock and light liner.  Rubber bottoms quality on both are good.  The fit on the bottoms seem a little wider on the Schnee's and fit my wider foot better compared to the same size in Bean.  Upper leather seems a little softer than the beans but these are used so they may just be broken in.  The new beans I ordered the upper leather seemed to have a lot more overlap that when tightened created some hot spots.

While I would not hesitate to recommend the Beans for the price if dollars were not an issue Schnees would be on my feet.

Those sure are some nice looking boots, and I've read good things about them here too. I've use the Bean boots for turkey hunting, and early season deer hunting, but I think when I can come up with the scratch, I'll get a pair of those. Thanks for posting the picture.

I think these style boots are the quietest boot out there while standing on a metal stand.  Was also surprised to see plenty of western hunters wearing them on there archery elk hunts.

Nice thing about these boots was the price $65.00 shipped.

I've been wearing Schnees for over 25 years.  Bought my first pair when I was living in Bozeman.  Wouldn't trade 'em for any other footwear.

I'm a big fan of schnee's packs with the tire tread soles.......use them everywhere, in the mountains hunting goats, late season mulies in the timber, slogging through moose swamps, stalking spring bears...... almost always have dry feet at the end of the day, and never a blister. Plus, re-buildable when the soles wear out. They are great boots

I have worn Beans and Schnees extensively. Beans are great. Schnees are 10X better than Beans.

Hard to beat Beans for quiet over any lug soled boots.  For side hills, Beans are terrible, Schnees win.

What is it that makes most of you guys like the Schnees so much more than the bean boots? I've worn the Beans for years and have always been happy with them, never tried Schnees.

I prefer the thin sole of the tire tread rather than the heavy tread.......even in the mountains. But that's just my preference. Thick lugged boots an me do not get along well.
I have not tried the Beans.......so I can't give a comparison there.

Just had a real PIA experience with LL Bean and will never deal with them again. Long story short, I ordered 2 pairs of the Maine Hunting Shoe with the idea of sending the one that didn't fit back, took almost 5 months to complete the order,.... second pair coming weeks after the first.... missing paperwork, incomplete paperwork...it was pitiful...the cornerstone of the company... I can't remember the price but kenetrek has a similar boot. I have them and really like them. Cheaper than schnees i think. Nice sole on them.

I have both.  However, the lightweight unlined ones are the Bean boots and the Schnees are the heavy ones with the wool insert.  Each has its own time and place.  Each has served me for many years.  I recently replaced the worn out OLD Beans and won't hesitate to replace the Schnees with new ones IF THEY EVER WEAR OUT.

I have worn LL Bean boots long enough to have them re-soled twice. New in 1987. Good light weight hunting boot.

I've worn Bean's boot for almost longer than I can remember. Thieves must like them too as I had a pair stolen out of the back of my truck while I was eating supper. Bought a new anniversary pair with the original red soles to replace them.
