Loving new back quiver from Soap Creek
« on: May 30, 2015, 08:27:00 PM »
While I was away in Texas a few weeks ago I sent a smoke signal out that I was looking for a simple back quiver for a reasonable price. I love the looks of the Howard Hill Archery ones but I have a smaller frame and my fear was it would be too large to enjoy hunting with. I have made one in the past but the leather was too thin for safe broadhead use (my son however will get plenty of use of it) and I considered just ordering the right leather and doing it again but honestly I have 20+ projects in que already and I didn't need another. Down the road perhaps I will, maybe the time I finally get around to that self bow I've always wanted to build. Retirement eligible in 7 years or so, maybe then. For now I just wanted a good old fashioned back quiver so I can spend my time shooting and doing all those spring projects (the month in Texas put me behind in nearly every aspect of life). Well Soap Creek wrote and said he makes them for a reasonable price (I won't blast none of that here, rest assured I'm tight with money and it didn't give me a second of pause), and if it fit the bill he'd ship it off. He only had one coat of oil on it, but thats easy-peasy. I got back from the lone star state, adjusted it to fit, rubbed in several coats of olive oil in between long soaks in the Dixie sunshine and worked it around to soften it. Then I got some sheep skin from 3 Rivers and lined the inside lip to quieten the wood shafts. I had to thin the wool down to about 1/4" first, but thats no biggy either. Barge cement held it in there perfect. I know that the key is for it to collapse in the center and this one does just that. Bending over, moving quietly, and arrow removal are no problem whatsoever.

Here's an action shot with my boys for some last light shooting of the day:

And here's a more dandy shot with my Wesley Special:

I can't wait for the years of sweat and stories to soak into the leather!

Let the quiver set in the hot sun for an hour and apply Montana Pitch blend, rub in real good. Do this twice a year and the quiver will darken up nicely plus conditioning will give you a lifetime quiver.

I also have a quiver made by Soap Creek.

I have several back quivers but my quiver Greg built has made it's way to the top of these as my favorite.
