Lacquer on carbons?
« on: May 30, 2015, 11:43:00 PM »
Any of you arrow masters lacquer over your cap dip and crested carbons to help protect all the time spent cresting?

Thanks,
Cory

Nope, I never try to dress up or mess with my carbon shafts.  I figure they're born ugly right out of the package and there's no use putting lipstick on a pig.     :D

Lacquer will damage most other paints. You could use a polyurethane clear, I suppose. I have not found water based paint to be nearly as durable as lacquer...no matter what they cost.  Bohning lacquer has a pretty toxic odor but it is extremely durable and needs no top coat.  And I disagree, TSP.  I like making a pretty arrow, regardless of the material.

Is that Bohning Laq. Paints? If so like oldbohntr says you do not need to clear coat. In fact Bohning says not to. They do sell a little bottle of waterbased clear to coat your crests. I found that Minwax waterbased Polycrilic works just as well. I cover the whole cap dipped and crested area. I use a cheap foam brush. I fletch using Saunders NPV glue.

Try polycrilic. Ive used it over dry cresting (24hrs)  and it works pretty good. Fletch with bohning platinum after it dries.

I crest carbons with Testors and clear coat when fully dry with rattle can Poly.
