Space heater
« on: June 03, 2015, 06:21:00 PM »
Seeing its a while before the cold weather gets here I thought I would ask if anybody knows of a space heater that is silent .
Now that I am older I can't set still in below freezing temps and tried a propane space heater in my blind last season . Was very nice and I could set still and quite .
The thing is , I didn't see any deer while I used it and was wondering if the hissing noise could be the problem ?
So anybody have any idea of a silent heater ?
I have thought of making a miniature Franklin stove and using charcole but I am worried it could be too warm .

Any unusual sound or smell and you are done. What about one of those body bags that drop down so you can shoot, and a lot of those chemical heat packs.

I would think some chemical heat pads would help a lot.
I had an older hunting buddy who would keep a bag of stones in the engine compartment of his truck. When we'd get to the stand he'd stick them into his pockets and on the carpet pad on the floor for him to warm his feet.

Is your blind enclosed?
Reason I ask is that I sit in a box blind with my kids (for "other" hunting) and using a Mr Buddy propane heater had deer right under us and they never knew we were there.
For bowhunting buy a Heater Body Suit and forget about the cold.  :)

I bought a Heater a Body Suit last year and am very pleased with it.  I hunt in North Dakota and NW MN.

I also have a Big Buddy Heater for an elevated stand- I don't think it is too noisy.

Years ago, when we gun hunter my Uncles mountain in Schoharie Co. NY...

At the top of the mountain, was a HUGE boulder, split in half thousands of years before. It was now about 4'-5' between the 2 halfs. It was called "Split Rock". It was a natural ground blind, with deer trails all around it. My Uncle always said "If a man sits here all day, he WILL kill a deer!!!" Those words came true MANY times, over the years...

My Dad would sit on the mountainside in the "Flat Woods" below in the morning, then head up to "split Rock" about 11am for lunch. Once he got there..... He built a fire. We had a Basket Grill that hung on a nail year round. Lunch was Hot Dogs, cooked over the coals. Over the years, many including myself, killed deer there. While the fire was smoking away..... Off the top of my head, I can remember 19.

Fire & wood smoke, are natural... Give it a try!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

Get like. .  500 hand warmers and spread them around you inside the blind.  That should help !

On the serious end, a friend of mine bought and uses an electric heated windsuit (top and bottom, and gloves) for riding his motorcycle.  I wonder if that might warm you up ?

Get the large heating packs
Place over your kidney area of the back.
One in the center of your chest (heart area)
Under a tight shirt or maybe you can sew a pocket to hold them.

Keeping your blood warm will keep you warm.
Maybe pack a thermos of Hot apple cider also

Once your core is lowered theres no getting warm.
Trust me, Im not a fan of cold weather. Once I get chilled Im done.

I have bought the back warming pads made for back pain at the drug store. Peel it open and stick it to your lower back and it will heat for a long time and help to keep you warm.
A hot drink like coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate can really help too.

Wouldn't carbon monoxide from an open flame be a problem in an enclosed blind?

The buddy heater works great and it's safe to use ,. It does have a low oxygen sensor . I even have one for my Enclosed trailer that doubles as camp when bear hunting in Canada .
