Have two new groups of Carbon Fiber arrows (Heratage 75 Carbon Express and Warrior First Flex 100% carbon) with 125grain field points and they all tear up my Yellow Jacket target bag, leave larger hole when I pull them back out of target. No problem with these field points on alunimum shaft Legacy XX75 2016 but there seems to be a lip at the back of field point where it meets arrow insert and this ridge catches on target material backing out. All the shafts are supposed to be 5/16th".  I'm thinking of removing the field points and grinding a bevel on the back lip to make them smoother backing out of target? I know it'll change point weight but I hate to ruin new $50 target bag?

If I'm not mistaken, I think field points for aluminum arrows are bigger around. I have some field points that do the same thing if I use them on a carbon shaft. Before I went to grinding, I'd purchase some field points for carbon shafts.

Tapering the back edge of the points isn't going to change the weight all that much. I've done it on several of my different point weights. I chuck the point in my drill press and use a file to "turn" the back edge down. Just be careful you dont hit the threads with the edge of the file. Alternatively, you could chuck the point in a hand drill and reduce the edge with a piece of sand paper.

I got some 800 spine arrows for my light-weight (31#) Mohawk longbow and had to go all the way to 175gr to tune them full length to this bow. 100 grain points are the heaviest I could find for this tiny diameter shaft. I turned the 175s down to a torpedo shape that ended up 165gr, but I REALLY tapered them. All you would need to do is break the rear edge back to the desired diameter.

Sure beats tearing up the target and they are almost impossible to pull from hard foam with that back edge sticking up.

Thanks, drill press is great idea, I had been thing holding them with vice grips to grinding wheel. Your smarter then the average bear. I now see that KustomKing Archery sell a chamfered easy pull point but until I finish weight testing I don't want to order 100 of them.

My thinking exactly (not being smarter than the average bear - just not wanting to buy a lot of points just to test)   :)

I do the same thing with a drill press and though it's been awhile since I weighed any,I think your weight loss would be app. 3 grs,5 grs tops. The EZ pull points are good too but I often make custom weight field points, using glue on points and adapters and most of those points want to snag and some of the steel adapters have a sharp, square edge.Beveling helps a lot.

CE Heritage 75 and 90 are a 9/32" shaft, not familiar with the Warrior.CE 150,250 and 350 are a 5/16" shaft.I have ground the back edge of inserts to make a smoother removal from targets.Like 50 and 100 gr. brass inserts don't always fit flush with some arrow shafts.
