"Longer Draw Length" Carbon Arrow Setup

Pulling 31" and liking the smaller diameter shafts, I found I couldn't get there with Gold Tip because of a 30" stock length on their small diameter shafts like KAOS or Kinetics. Easton Axis Traditionals go to 340 spine but not 300. With a 200 grain VPA broadhead on the front, my "go to bow" shot better with 300's ....so the final solution was Axis Caron N Fuse at 10.7 GPI which come in a raw stock length of 32.5" and I didn't cut them. The HIT brass inserts give the option of either 50 gr or 75 gr... I went with 50 gr. and ended up with a 635 gr arrow that shoots 182 fps with a 18% FOC out of my 52# at 28" Palmer recurve....fletching is Trueflight feathers 5" shield cut LW helical. I tend to focus on fps that a bow shoots rather than pounds for reference. After a lot of experimentation including bare shaft tuning, this setup was a winner for me and thought I would share.

Thanks for sharing, its always interesting to hear what other people with long draws shoot. I have a 32" draw and it definitely takes a bit of work to find a good set up especially for shooting a heavier tip. I'm thinking of trying some arrow dynamics since they have some spines all the way down to .200 at a light gpi for the stiff spines.

I draw 31" and am in the process of setting up my new hunting bow  I too would like to end up with around 600 grain plus arrow.

I have a 31dl and have to shoot 300 spine arrows.  The axis 260s with a lot of weight up front is very appealing.  Glad that you found your combination that works.

I was told just the other day that you can call Goldtip and special order longer shafts, their Kinetics used to come where they would make a thirty three inch arrows with the outsert. Then buy some of their Ballistic footings and glue them on with JB Weld and you will have some of the toughest arrows I've ever used!

I draw 31.5. If you have shafts you can't cut off it make tuning a real problem.
The The Three Rivers Trad On;y .300 are 33". They are excellent shafts.
Actually my draw is probably less recently. I changed my form a little bit and a nice side effect is a slightly shorter draw. I have been able to use the Gold Tips. It's a luxury having some more selections of shafting.

Yeah I'd truly love to have a 29-30" draw and be able to tune an arrow instead of building out strike plates etc..... Grass is always greener on the other side ain't it!

I appreciate this post, KodaChuck.  I have a 30" draw.  Use Gold Tip Traditional 3555 at 32.5" (uncut).  Works pretty good out of my 50# Bear Montana.

mt-tom .... I have been a Gold Tip fan for a long time. I then thought about the positive implications of the narrow shafts and then when shooting them into new foam along side regular GT size shafts, all other elements equal - they penetrated deeper because of less friction and the micro diameter.
The theory is that it would be OK to have your broadhead diameter a little bigger to set up the entrance hole for the smaller diameter arrow to follow through as it passes through the game animal. So I am seeing the same depth of penetration as my buddy who is shooting 10 lbs heavier draw weight but regular GT's. Yes ... could be other factors ...but once something gets in your head, it is hard to turn back ... thus began the saga of finding the long length micro-diameter arrows and wanting every bit of advantage possible. Probably insignificant but it is in my head.  Thinking Elk every day and waiting for 29 August ...opening week  ... Colorado.
