Fox High Sierra? Anybody?

I am thinking about buying one and am curious as to what yall that own them think of them. Big Jim had a used one at Compton so I picked it up and it felt great in my hand but was way too much weight for me, I would really like to see some pictures if you have any.

It was my first recurve in 2001 when I started contemplating a return to my roots. I love the grip on these bows!  I have a 1-piece Maverick now.  Smooth, quality workmanship, and like I mentioned, very comfortable grip.

The only thing I didn't like about the HS, and this is  PURELY a cosmetic preference, are the limb bolt insert ends that show on the face of the riser, top and bottom.

I'm not a big fan of the exposed limb bolt inserts either but I think I could get past it. Are they a good performer? Quiet, fast pointability? Thanks for responding Roy.

Bought a used High Sierra on this website 10 years ago.  60 inch, 53@28"; Zebra/Cocobolo riser with red elm limbs and antler tips.  A very pretty bow with excellent craftsmanship.  Very happy with it.  At first, I was on the fence over the exposed limb bolt inserts.  Then I realized that it's probably a stronger design than the hidden inserts on other bows. The brass inserts have aged and taken on a nice patina, kinda compliments the wood now.  It's quick enough, and quiet. If anything ever happened to it, I'd buy another one just like it.    

I think you'd be happy with one...

Thanks Bill, I really like the riser, the way the sight window is cut out and the handle fit great on the one Jim had. I would have bought it if it wouldn't have been #74@28!! These days that's about #20 more than I care to shoot.

Love mine, it was my first custom built for me. Originally had it made with 55# limbs and later got a set of 46#. It is the quietest shooting recurve I have ever shot - just a dull thud.

Anything built by Ron King is a winner.  Top shelf quality and he builds em to shoot.

I ordered a breed back in 96 I think. It was a outstanding bow and I killed a lot of critters with it. I started shooting longbows a couple of years later and have been with them ever since. I sold that breed a few years ago, but after picking up that fox at Crompton I'm going to have to have one.

The High Sierra has been my go to bow for years and it's taken a lot of critters! The draw cycle is it's most impressive feature. Right before i hit anchor, it let's off and just tucks in while i draw a bead on something's chest. I've owned some nice bows and there's nothing like my Fox.

I got a High Sierra in '98, I believe, and will never give it up. Although I have been shooting a longbow for several years now, I still get the High Sierra out and play with it quite frequently. I just simply love the thing!
