Over the past 6 years I've bought at least 5 new Bears from the factory. Not a single one had any issues. I'd go for it.

As long as Big Jim checks everything over I would be OK with it.  I am one of the folks who have had some issues with some of their quality control. But the bows I had issues with were NOT from Big Jim but direct from Bear (warranty replacement for another bow).  They had issues that should not have left the plant. Big Jim will take good care of you. The Super Kodiaks are great shooting bows.

I've bought a few of the new Bears and not had any issues.  However, I got the bows from Big Jim and Footed Shaft which are both very reputable outfits that make sure their customers are handled properly.

I've read about some quality control problems from Bear but believe they are very, very few and have not heard of any within the past few months.  If there is a problem, Bear will stand by their work.

Keep in mind, any company can have an issue...even Black Widow.  I had to return a set of MA limbs to BW after less than a year, however, their customer service is the best and they fixed the situation promptly.

Like you, I do love the looks of that SK, but cannot stand quiver inserts in a bow and a special order is out of the question.  Otherwise, I say go for it and show us pics.

The shape of the grip on the phenolic SK is great, reminiscent of the late 60's bows.  I'm not sure the standard SK has the same grip.  Maybe someone with access to them can comment.

The grips vary on the SKs as they probably do on other models depending on who finishes it out.  The work is still done with a lot of hands-on sanding and finishing.  My latest SK has a very different feel to the grip than others I have had recently--different guy did this one--best grip on a Bear I have ever felt.

We have a lot of the Black Beauty Super K's to pick from at this time but that may not be the case in a few weeks as we will be taking most of them to Denton Hill (biggest event of the year).

I will see to it that you get a bow to be proud of and a good string to go with it.
I give a free replacement (non-Bear string) with all non discounted Bear bows.
Thanks, bigjim

I've bought several handles and a few sets of limbs from Big Jim. Great service.
