Heavy hunter question
« on: July 01, 2015, 03:01:00 PM »
Just got some blems in but nocks were left out. I tried putting normal gold tip nocks on but they seem to small for these heavy shafts. Just Wondering if they'd work til I got new ones in without hurting the shafts or bow. Thanks guys!

i see all the spine sizes use the same diameter points , 5/16. i would assume the inside diameter is still.246 but not positive.
do you mean loose when you say they are "too small" if the nocks are so loose they fall out on their own, i wouldnt chance shooting them.
on the other hand if they are only slightly loose i would try a piece of dental floss or thin plastic like a shopping bag over the hole then push the nock in. that should tighten things up.
i see 3 rivers sells nocks specifically for HH shafts.

They fit good, they just don't fit flush with the outside of the shaft. I talked to Debbie from bigjims and she's sending the nocks, I'm just impatient lol . She said they use standard gold tip nocks with them though, so these should work til I get them in. They're customer service as always was excellent and fast. I saw that on 3 rivers to which was making me wonder

The walls on the Heavy Hunter shafts are thicker than the regular GT shafts.  So while the inner diameter is the same to allow for the use of the same nocks the nocks themselves don't match up with the overal outer diameter of the larger HH shafts.

I will try to post a picture later showing them side by side.

Here are a few pics (sorry for the bad lighting...it's dark and stormy here and I tried to use some artificial light.)

First pick:  HH on the right and regular 5575 GT on the left.  I'm assuming this is what you're seeing when the HH nock is "too small."

Second pic:  HH on the right again and you can see how much thicker the walls are.

I think you'll find that even when you get the new nocks from Big Jim that they will fit the same.  I haven't had any problem with my heavy hunters though.   I think that's just the way it is.

I'm sorry we left out the nocks from your shipment, but any goldtip nocks will work until we get yours too you. You may have them already.

Originally GoldTip had some made up that were a little larger on the outside, but since they discontinued the HeavyHunter shafts, they no longer have the larger diameter nocks to go with them. The others will do fine but don't look quite as good.
If it bothers you, you can chamfer them with a fingernail file and you won't notice it as much.

Originally "BearPaw" commissioned GoldTip to make these for them. Recently however, BearPaw has moved all of there arrow business to China in search of cheaper product hence no more "Heavy Hunters" at least by GoldTip.

Thanks, bigjim

Big Jim,
Well, that stinks!  I retired from the business world because of this kind of outsourcing.  I have NEVER seen a product from China or Taiwan that was the equal of the product it replaced!

I have found the HH shafts to be real decent(but outrageously expensive!)  I bought some of your seconds and some unused shafts from another TGer though.  I have quite a few left unused.  Can I still get more inserts and nocks from you at this time?
Tom
