Hey Brian the MTB is not the only game in town, The MLA Michigan Longbow Association is growing weekly, plus the MBH Michigan Bow Hunters has a large following of traditional archers. Also as far as trad shoots there is one almost every weekend somewhere in the state. We finally had to limit how many shoots to go to because we just could not afford to hit them all. May 1st we do the MLA Spring shoot, June there is Compton’s and the MTB shoot, July there the Barryton Stickbow shoot that we always go to. Then August is Elm Hall Stickbow shoot, GLLI shoot in Hastings which all all great traditional shoots. And these are just the ones we go to. You just need to ask around and you’ll see trad archery is alive and well.
Also as far as the MTB goes, the best way to spark their growth is man up and join the council. These guys are always looking for new people with great ideas, the problem isn’t with trad archery dying off, the problem is getting workers, volunteers or members to put back into the clubs that are doing the work. Join the council then convince your friends to join that is how your spark any club or organization!
