ABowyer Bone Head

As most of you know I'm a multi blade fan and most of my animals have been taken with multi blades however some have not just curious how many have killed with an A Bowyer Bone Buster head..... the head is well made and is a brute a tank buster I have only shot one animal with it the hog below in the Cohutta Wilderness.... I hope to take an animal with several other too two blade Heads namely the the Tuff head by vintage archery and the big long wide grizzly in time.... I just need the appropriate animal on the propriat hunt to do so.

Where the pic of the hog you mentioned    Anyway I have not use the Bonehead, but look forward to the stories of those who have.

I have started using the Simmons Tiger Shark last season and took a doe with it and it turned a bad shot into a short trail.

We have the good fortune of having several innovated broad heads available to us in our time

I have some. Only shots were 2 misses on the same deer 8 days apart and a wounded one that lived, probably to this day. One of the misses hit a slate chunk and put a deep gouge in it and only required a light stropping to get back to scary sharp.

  I absolutely love the construction of Abowyers but dang Ive had a rough time putting them where I want them to go. 2 years and 4 bad shots, all no fault of the product I assure you. Ill be shooting Abowyer Whitetails and VPA penetrators this year.

No experience with the bonehead.  Bad experience with the brown bear, and have seen other examples of the same, with the tip breaking off just above the ferrule.  Probably not a problem with the different profile of the bonehead, and may have just been a batch with a poor temper.  Would never have guessed it to look at them. It added insult to injury when my friend shot the same bone and blew through it with an ACE head.

Wish I could speak directly to the Bonehead, but I have never shot that exact profile. I looked at them recently and feel they really lack nothing; I would buy and hunt them in an instant if I didn't already have other Abowyer heads...plenty of them. The Brown Bear has been very popular, but I've never been a huge fan of the long-profile type heads. I've shot the Wapiti for years and have had no failures of any type with them. I get excellent flight and short recoveries when I do my job with the bow. I'm sticking with them for my upcoming caribou trip in a few weeks. This one hammered a bear just a couple months ago:

 

That said, I've been buying some Abowyer Whitetail heads to try on my local deer. These dudes are big...convex edge profile...and vented. They look like weapons.

I think the Bonehead is a no-brainer.

I have been using Simmons safari's, and VPA 3 blades for a while, but received a new TallTines this past spring that requires a higher grain for my 400 FMJ's.

With that being said I purchased some boneheads with titanium adapters to make it 220 grains. they fly great, crazy sharp out of the pack, and cant wait to see what they will do on a whitetail come September.

The Bonehead design is a sleeper.  We are all hip on the 3:1 designs being touted, but this one fits in a quiver, is super strong, can get sharp as all get out and will likely work very well.  Since I likely won't be shooting any Wildebeast or Buffalo in my future, I am thinking 3:1 design is nice, but not really needed.

I have ( in my collection), but have not shot the Bonehead.  I kept taking it off the rack and looking at it and wishing.  

Not to degrade the Bonehead at all, but to add, the RMSG Cutthroat looks to be a fully machined version of the same for their 160 screw in.

I have shot quite a few deer with the Abowyer Wapiti broadhead.  They shoot great, penetrate well, produce good blood trails, and not too difficult to get razor sharp.

The buck in this thread was shot with the Bonehead. It performed extremely well and is wicked sharp! I moved to this after unsatisfactory results with the Brown Bear...

I harvested a few with the Brown Bear as well. Wicked sharp, love the weight, dimensions and profile. However, I purchased the carbon steel version and I experienced tip curl on virtually every hit, even within standard rib cage double lung pass-thrus into dirt. Heavier bone was worse. To go to the Stainless version means more brittle and could possibly end up breaking like the picture above... If I'm going single bevel 2-Blade its for increased penetration/performance on bone, not only soft tissue. It's possible I got a batch that had a temper issue, but after working with Abowyer we decided to change to the Boneheads. I'm glad I did. Abowyer is a great company and the folks are top notch and were wonderful to work with.

I've had great luck with the Abowyer Bonehead and Brown Bear.

The Bonehead was my "gateway drug" into the single-bevel design.  I started the Bonehead first in the fall of 2013 when I started gearing up for Africa the following year.  I had been using 3-blade Woodsmans(orignal Wensel vintage:)) and the Bonehead was the same weight.

The Bonehead did it's job over a magical 3-day period on November of that year and I was fortunate enough to take 2 bucks and a hen turkey.  The blood trails and performance were as good as the Wensels by my estimation on each of those critters.

   
   
   

That winter and spring I went full on into the singel-bevel and ordered some of the longer Brown Bears to gear up for Africa in July 2014.  I really liked being able to sharpen them using the Grizzly sharpening wheel and they are easy to tune.

July 2014 I was fortunate enough to take a real nice Kudu.  The shot was through the heart and lodged in the off shoulder.  Only damage to the Brown Bear was a tiny chip off the point.  Not bad for a 75 yard death run in an animal that size.

Well I got a "Free" pack of those heads for coming up with the name for them back a few years ago when they had a contest to name all the heads here.. I hunted with them but haven't shot anything with one yet cause I haven't hunted much with them to be honest..
 I may just put them in my quiver this year and see what happens..
